Does anyone outside the RHEL ecosystem use Podman? 🤔 Whenever I suggest Podman, other developers or PMs insist on Docker, which is far more popular and has a stronger brand. Even many RHEL users prefer Docker. Red Hat should have addressed Docker's issues instead of creating another tool that, while good, few people want. And yes docker can run rootless too but it has same limitations as podman rootless like can not bind below 1024 port or create device nodes etc

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@nixCraft on my PFE (2019) I discovered Docker & its alternative Podman, no idea why they create an alternative to something already without untreated issued & with MAKING THE SAME SOLUTION if not less, it is like cigarettes & cigarettes makers, cigarette makers do not smoke, also Podman main target do not use Podman, also, it is easier to integrate Jenkins with Docker

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@taylorlorenz eh, since many years and the US is known to be pro-is-not-real so I ignore everything related to the conflict and coming from them, since many years & this attitude I have proved to be effective because naturally the US officials make as if Palestinians are the devil but they are in fact victims, recently, they made as if protest are evil & make anarchy but were in fact peaceful, so US officials, about the Gaza conflict are 0% reliable for me, just wanted to share my opinion

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast SteamVR still doesn't support meta Quest 3 and Linux, I know that meta is a devil & we should avoid it, but in tunisia, you don't have any choice, except buying a psVR but it's for console peasants, anyway, these are screenshots from the Steam Link app on my meta Quest 3, it's kinda obvious to distinguish between the winlol machine & the Linux one
This thing is the only one that makes me not overwrite winlol with Linux on my Desktop PC

image/jpeg

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast the ps5 is very very expensive in tunisia, like 1K.9 TND expensive, combine that with the headset that is also expensive, the games that are not available everywhere & the subscription that costs a fair sum of money, all that with our minimum wage, monthly salary that is less than 500TND (not 500K), combine that with the many taxes we have....
At least you won't suggest to me the BS of helping me get out, since 1956 and our economy is locked down: no outside payment

Ah yes, I see it’s time for the people in shorts to kick the ball again, as hundreds of people who have seemingly lost all politeness and semblance of being human beings shout, scream, and « sing » in the streets and take up every single cm of the walkways with their cars.

I can’t wait to move so I’m no longer close to the f**king stadium. I hate football and football supporters so much, it turns into irrational anger.

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP our political heads fascinated with football
In tunisia it is worse, our house is nowhere near any kind of stadium but here every cm there's a café, and what cafés do? All of them always have TVs and football, and the majority of people are fascinated by football, that makes sleeping at night hard cause the noise, & parking is even harder when there is a match

I realized that I never explained the various differences between all the different kernel variants, and since my Patrons and YouTube members voted for me to cover that topic, here we are!

I’ll go over what the real time, low latency, TKG, Zen, Liquorix, XanMod, Libre, LTS, or hardened kernels are, and which one you should pick!

https://youtu.be/_idZGJ1NgPE

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP it also bothered me that you never talked about it, I don't wanna dig into documentation, I wanna experience it myself & use some researches, for example, something I learned yesterday is that Garuda tend to be resource heavy because it uses Zen, switch to LTS and that will drop down enough
on Arch-based, you don't install like linux-zen-6.8.4 but you install the package linux-zen & linux-zen-headers and it auto gets the latest version

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP I use Endeavour FTW!
seriously now, can you share a video to change kernels or update it without rebooting the distro, changing the kernel on the go? in a nutshell I just want to keep my EOS on for 400+ days with regular updates (that means always change the latest kernel supported by the Nvidia driver) without rebooting after each $eos-update --aur

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP unfortunately, guess I am stuck with rebooting every month max, unless you can show me a git repo of such a tool so I can compile it myself, that shouldn't be hard, or does it?

Me: Darn! I wish there was an app that could fix this issue and make my life easier.

A few seconds later: wait, a sec, I'm a developer.. 💡

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@nixCraft on Linux, you usually don't need an app for a special need, you can most of the time do it with a command, or using its Open-source status, you could find a solution on duckduckgo or startpage, on extreme cases, you usually find someone who had that need and already created an app for that, even on winlol, example the debloater or ads disabler
but if you are an alien that magically thought of a new need that can't be satisfied with any of the above means, then you should create one OS

@thelinuxEXP I am ashamed I tried to become a m$ MVP........ (BTW in 2012 I joined the m$ club in the ISI high school & climbed until I became one of the highest staff member providing support on software, hardware & the like, that until 2019 when I discovered that m$ lied to my face, they said that winlol 10 is the last winlol, imagine my surprise when they announced winlol 11, since then I built myself in the Linux world, I even contribute to a tunisian Linux distro)

apple is close-sourced, that's for sure, but from what they confirmed that their products are privacy-friendly, unlike some Open-source actors, like facebook & xiaomi (a lot of their products are basically Open-source, example HoloOS which is based on android which is Open-source)
talking about an unrelated thing, what keeps you on iPhone? I mean what are your weird needs on a phone?

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast
Well, a Chinese phone isn't your issue, it's a Chinese OS, android is customizable for a reason, bottom line: you can buy a Chinese phone & directly install a custom rom, like Lineage OS, or you can buy a customizable phone, or a Fairphon, it isn't a problem on this side, as I heard you once, you like everything ready out of the box, to tell you the truth, me too, but sometimes you have to get your hands dirty, if done many times, it becomes a normal unrealized habit

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast still, an iPhone, I guess it is different on the EU but in tunisia, the cheapest supported one (which is old enough) costs at least 4K TND so anyone like me who loves Apple products but has a medium-high income must look at all sides on android phones (for an iPhone, one needs to have a veeeery high income because of side spending and taxes.... Etc) so you can certainly find what you need, you just need a connaisseur on the subject, not me

7 Will go end of life in about 2 months, and this isn’t the usual EOL distribution: this time, it’s the entire distribution that is being shelved, without any upgrade path.

So I decided to take a look at why it’s a bigger deal than usual, and invited Joao Correia from TuxCare and the Enterprise Linux Podcast for an interview, to explain the issues in more detail, since they are experts about this.

like we say in this kind of situations: RIP, it was a good (OS) one
I remember on my final year project about 5 years ago, I first used CentOS 7 after staying years using CentOS 6 (for server-side projects only)
anyway, I guess it is time to use Alma or another clone
