I ran a little survey over the past week, to see which problems people were facing on , and I must say the results surprised me!

We got 3300 answers, on the general skill level, hardware or software problems, most problematic areas, the terminal, the community, the ease of finding online help, and more! So, here are my conclusions:

@thelinuxEXP it slipped my attention, your recent survey, but my only problem with Linux is the VR, the rest is just peachy & I know that it is my own doing that I had to use the terminal, on my brother's laptop though, I rarely needed to do things via the terminal
oh, and I am a very advanced Linux user, not one that has to big corporate with a Linux server, I mean, I studied Linux for many years, noticed that the majority is like a broken record

I decided to check if gaming distros gave you an edge in terms of performance, compared to something based, and of a specific gaming distro would perform better than another.

Since I had a @tuxedocomputers mini ITX desktop on hand to review, I decided to combine the two, so I checked whether gaming distros are better for gaming, with 4 game benchmarks I ran on the Atlas S:

https://youtu.be/Wu6uNmyXRHA

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP @tuxedocomputers "gaming" distros are just the base distros with packages that optimize gaming and the like, but it's still Linux: your hardware always says the last word, but if I can throw a random advice, the Steam launch argument also matters, I mean in many cases, a package doesn't get exploited unless you add something as argument, after the benchmark, you found that the KDE distos are similar, in that case, a 1 FPS difference matters so Nobara wins I guess

Some of the health benefits of serving herbal or green tea to your friends at your home when they visit you:

  1. You look fancy
  2. You are providing healthy beverage
  3. You save money on various milk types
  4. They will not ask for more
  5. Most importantly, they will reconsider visting your home again
  6. It is a win-win for all involved parties
bargoderea,

@nixCraft and you forgot a point:
they will thank you after mosquitoes leave them alone

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@nixCraft @tyx all of tunisia is like that but that's not my point, my point was my experience, when I was a child, mosquitoes were dining with my blood every night, & sometimes even day, many years ago (2012 I guess) I went to a doctor for a diet to lose weight, he recommended that I drink a glass of green tea each time I eat, meaning 3 times a day, since then, I rarely get bitten even though the climate got warmer so I sleep more exposed

@thelinuxEXP Nitris is so new that its -git AUR package (yay -S nitris-git) is broken, if someone is in a hurry to get it I guess they can compile it from the source, but I am not
as for m$, I didn't watch the event live but watched its reaction videos, talked about how disastrous it is & shared a recap to all my co-workers because I work for TP which is of EU origin so winlol only environment, I just love news like that, drives the EU and TP to use Linux

My latest game of was insanely fun! Took another Ork Dread Mob list, with a Stompa, against Tyranids, and it ended on a perfect draw, 75 VP each.

What matters is that a Killa Kan exploded and took out a Pyrovore, which exploded and killed a Neurotyrant that was on 1HP, and then the Stompa with 1HP charged a Hive Tyrant, killed it, then the tyrant exploded in death, killing the Stompa, which exploded and thus killed my Mek, a Deff Dread, plus DeathLeaper, and a BroodLord. Awesome!

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP sounds awesome, spectacular & fun! I envy anyone that has time to play because my job doesn't give me enough free time, and I am a heavy gamer (on vacation, I even game 12 hours per day)
anyway, Warhammer40K has too many games, and its universe is close to WoW, a game I recently quit, so I guess I need a rather large break from that universe

Do you remember Netscape? Did you ever use it as your default browser? 🤔

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@nixCraft of course, it was a nice alternative for IE but better, however with our very limited internet at the time, we rarely used it, plus, the internet was hulla expensive & 64Kb/s was the pinnacle then so everybody in tunisia didn't use it much, now 10Mbit/s is the pinnacle but the subscription is cheaper, not dirt cheap, but cheaper

for firefox data collection feature, maybe it is far fetched, but I think that it is a sign Mozilla is getting away from privacy, at least with their browser
& for France, it just doesn't come as a surprise, for example try to open YT Aljazeera live without anything, no VPN, no Proxy, no nothing...
I do not live in the EU but that's what EU people who came to tunisia said, also, when in tunisia, browsing yt with a German VPN, Arabic news channels don't open

Does anyone outside the RHEL ecosystem use Podman? 🤔 Whenever I suggest Podman, other developers or PMs insist on Docker, which is far more popular and has a stronger brand. Even many RHEL users prefer Docker. Red Hat should have addressed Docker's issues instead of creating another tool that, while good, few people want. And yes docker can run rootless too but it has same limitations as podman rootless like can not bind below 1024 port or create device nodes etc

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@nixCraft on my PFE (2019) I discovered Docker & its alternative Podman, no idea why they create an alternative to something already without untreated issued & with MAKING THE SAME SOLUTION if not less, it is like cigarettes & cigarettes makers, cigarette makers do not smoke, also Podman main target do not use Podman, also, it is easier to integrate Jenkins with Docker

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@taylorlorenz eh, since many years and the US is known to be pro-is-not-real so I ignore everything related to the conflict and coming from them, since many years & this attitude I have proved to be effective because naturally the US officials make as if Palestinians are the devil but they are in fact victims, recently, they made as if protest are evil & make anarchy but were in fact peaceful, so US officials, about the Gaza conflict are 0% reliable for me, just wanted to share my opinion

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast SteamVR still doesn't support meta Quest 3 and Linux, I know that meta is a devil & we should avoid it, but in tunisia, you don't have any choice, except buying a psVR but it's for console peasants, anyway, these are screenshots from the Steam Link app on my meta Quest 3, it's kinda obvious to distinguish between the winlol machine & the Linux one
This thing is the only one that makes me not overwrite winlol with Linux on my Desktop PC

image/jpeg

bargoderea,
@bargoderea@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast the ps5 is very very expensive in tunisia, like 1K.9 TND expensive, combine that with the headset that is also expensive, the games that are not available everywhere & the subscription that costs a fair sum of money, all that with our minimum wage, monthly salary that is less than 500TND (not 500K), combine that with the many taxes we have....
At least you won't suggest to me the BS of helping me get out, since 1956 and our economy is locked down: no outside payment

Ah yes, I see it’s time for the people in shorts to kick the ball again, as hundreds of people who have seemingly lost all politeness and semblance of being human beings shout, scream, and « sing » in the streets and take up every single cm of the walkways with their cars.

I can’t wait to move so I’m no longer close to the f**king stadium. I hate football and football supporters so much, it turns into irrational anger.

bargoderea,

@thelinuxEXP our political heads fascinated with football
In tunisia it is worse, our house is nowhere near any kind of stadium but here every cm there's a café, and what cafés do? All of them always have TVs and football, and the majority of people are fascinated by football, that makes sleeping at night hard cause the noise, & parking is even harder when there is a match
