migrating from chrome to firefox was a little too easy. it's worrying that firefox could just import passwords from chrome without me having to provide anything. no account password, no decryption key, nothing.

though it didn't work with firefox-snap on ubuntu; but on windows it did.

@lritter current OSs focus on protecting users from each other, while it would be just as important to protect you from programs accessing your personal info without consent. It’s a big reason why i use discord, Spotify etc. from the browser and won’t ever install their apps.

A concept I feel ought to exist, but doesn't exist, in software development is the "diff diff". In other words, if there are two separate patches performing a similar function, I want to see the difference between those two patches. I've been thinking about this for years but I don't think I've ever seen it and I don't even know what word to use to describe it.

You could apply both patches and compare the results, but this is high-friction and doesn't work if the patches have different roots.

Ismo is a comedian from my home town, Jyväskylä, Finland. Couple of years ago he made a breakthrough in the US when he got to perform at Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Ismo’s jokes are literal (often Leslie Nielsen type of stupid-literal-dad-joke level stuff), witty, he rarely uses any profanity in his stuff. Most of all he doesn’t do politics or offensive stuff, he does not need it. He loves to play with words and fuck with the American people. The funniest thing is, in Finland he also has the same setlist, just the words are different, it works surprisingly well in the world as well.

Ismo is unique and truly funny, I often laugh to him just seeing him talk. I mean really, I’ve seen him talking in the morning TV and not even trying to be funny and I still laugh my ass off. If you literally want to laugh your ASS word while getting your mind blown with the world ASS, watch this.

i saw a post on here (cant find it now) where someone said that people trying to target obsolete platforms apparently often use riscv and then just compile an interpreter for riscv for the platform and wow that actually makes a ton of sense

you can write a dead simple riscv interpreter for rv32im in an afternoon and riscv has a lot of modern support. plus you can easily interact with the host via ecall/ebreak which are part of the core instruction set

So, like many folks, I'm doing a bit of saturday work from home to support the project as it is getting closer to release.

Since my home desktop is primarily a system, I decided to try and see if I could compile a game without Windows.

Short answer: No. I could not.

There is actually an package that gives you a working compiler in , but there is no way to get to work to build .sln and .vcxproj files.

I wonder how much worse the build time would be in a VM 🤔

@fell i was able to compile my c++ game for windows on Linux using clang, but 1. I used scons just for building that and 2. I did need to copy a bunch of includes and libs from windows…

As for building in a vm, in my experience it works great (tho i tried the other way around, Linux vm under windows), i wouldn’t expect considerable slowdown compared to native if you expose enough cores to the vm.

I love the idea of fantasy consoles but I can't handle the whole "you edit them from inside the 256x160 pixel fantasy OS!"

I did my time with coding on 640x480, I can't go back, I get claustrophobic.
