(But also I look at this a lot and think about my ambition to sail across it. Radar, satellite phone, all the tech or not... that is a lot of big angry water.)

(But also... can you really claim to know the earth if you don't know anything about all of this?)

I'm trying to establish some internal terminology for classifying the material functions in Tangerine, based on the parameters needed to evaluate them.

Right now I have several material functions that take only a point in space, a normal, and a view ray. One of these is a solid color fill, one is a nice fake PBR material, and one is a debug material.

I'm going to add materials that also take light parameters, hench the need for differentiating names.

When I'm writing Rust, I have a nigh-pathological focus on never using Rc or RefCells. I put a lot of effort into this. I tell myself this is because reference counting is an inefficiency, however small, and where that inefficiency is unnecessary it's worth avoiding. But if I'm being honest, I'm really doing it because I am trying to put off as long as possible looking up which one is Rc<RefCell<>> and which is RefCell<Rc<>>

Observation:

2021: The big deal in tech investing is MLMs (cryptocurrency)

2023: The big deal in tech investing is LLMs ("AI")

From this we can conclude the big deal in 2025 will be MLLs. So if you want to get ahead of the curve, all you have to do is figure out what an "MLL" is and have an investor-ready example of one by 2025, and you'll be golden

I don't usually endorse companies, but I have to say a few words about the German book marketplace #Thalia and their #Tolino eReaders.

I got myself a Tolino Vision 5, which is hardware-wise identical to a Kobo Libra H2O.

1. The Tolino lets you skip account creation, Kobo doesn't.
2. The Tolino lets you customize the image displayed during sleep, Kobo doesn't.
3. The Tolino has a secret debug menu which let's you install custom APKs.

When they said "open ecosystem" they really meant it. Nice.

For a while now I've had this intense interest in doing some stuff with realtime raytraced rendering but a problem is I have no idea what kind of content I'd be displaying in the raytrace and don't know how to start with modeling things that show off raytracing well

Last week i started playing Deus Ex: Mankind divided, but i wasn’t feeling it… either the game or me (or both) hasn’t aged well 😆

So i switched to Observer and finished it in 3 days ^^ future-Krakow was interesting, it was much better executed than Layers of Fear (now I’m more convinced they can handle the SH2 remake too)… kinda as if Fictional games hired David Lynch for directing. Tho after SOMA it’s damn hard to improve on transhumanism…
