bencardoen,

Have you considered making a book of these photos?

Repost of a similar photo few months ago, a grey heron clearly not enjoying its day. Felt appropriate to capture

Very old (pre-covid) panorama photo of the view on Coliseum Mt. This is snow free only at the end of Summer (1400m altitude), it's a spectacular trail and view. Two approaches exist, the popular one with a 8km approach, then ascending a clearly flagged route up. Alternatively, you can cycle in 11km, then do a shorter but very steep and at times unmarked ascent, including a wonderful scree field, which I quite enjoyed. Cycling back at the end of the hike has some benefits in keeping your muscles from seizing up after a painful descent (+- 40% for 2 hours). Advisable to keep extra water/food on your bike, in my case I ran short with 5.5L for the day. Hoping to do it again this Summer. #pnw #hiking #britishcolumbia #nature #themountainiscalling #mountains

Infrequently used singletrack motocross/mtb trail halfway up Eagle Mt, connecting to other even less frequently used, but magical trails. Only becomes accessible in April, but worth it, as it hugs the mountain side for a few km that feel endless (as good singletrack does).

Old growth high on the Eagle Mt ridge, where you have a nice balance of sparsely spaced trees with a lush and varied undergrowth. It's especially striking as these days you invariably first have to cross tree farm/replanted forests of dense monoculture that tends to be dark and leave little room to create a rich undergrowth, and have a lot of debris from the felling of the original forest, making it vulnerable to fire. Invariably the replanted forest would be almost void of life, whereas the richer yet higher forest would be teeming with douglas squirrel, owls, ravens, eagles, etc. #forest #oldgrowth #ecosystem #pnw

Glad I went out, even though weather looked iffy. This is the Little Valhalla viewpoint overlooking #burnaby and #vancouver #hiking #nature #landscape

bencardoen, to Weather

heading out, and taking a look at the weather. this can really go either way. Will be interesting to see what the mountains make of it #weather #hiking

the character on the right, drying their wings is a regular at this pond ... the character with colorful makeup on the left first appeared yesterday

bencardoen,

These look like cormorants, but not quite? Can you share the species?

The trail markers of MTB trails showcase the poetry of creation. Made by volunteers, when you ride these at the end your legs, lungs, and soul agree: 'apt'. Let's do that one more time...

A less well known viewpoint on the Lynn Peak route, looking towards the Grouse range. Appropriate as the deep booming sound of the reminded me I was but a visitor to its terrain. The rocks I was sitting on were scarred by glacier induced striations, which was impressive as they're at 900+m altitude.

Nature's way of issuing parking tickets. Gives one hope that the inexorable advance of life will overcome.

Not on the map, yet tempting.

Low hanging clouds obscure the 1250m+ mountains on either side, with the forest and river contending for space in the valley. #river #pacificnorthwest #nature #hiking

Slick bumpy forest service roads often washed out, hugged by barely contained forest, with towering mountains shadowing the skyline. no better begin to adventure #hiking #nature #pacificnorthwest #adventure

Squamish river valley, snow fed from rocky poets such as Cloudburst Mt. If you need persuading why hiking in the rain is arguably better than in sun, this may go some way.

walking in clouds. got surprised by something fast in my peripheral vision, rushing leaves and humming, fear made it into a bear, twas but a hummingbird

Ashlu 'Creek' before she merges with Squamish river. -+30m wide, with a strong current. the floodplain is a witness to the power that can be unleashed
