Does your native language use the same words or different words for "borrow" and "lend"?

And do you struggle with that distinction in English? (if English native, answer "diff words")

bew,
@bew@floss.social avatar

@fasterthanlime I honestly don't understand the difference (except for the inversion in the way it's used).
Is there an actual semantic difference?

For all you fancy command line prompt-havers. Newline or no newline at the end of the prompt?

So, this:

you@host ~/f/bar git:main [*?]␤
> ▁

Or this:

user@host ~/f/bar git:main [*?] > ▁

bew,
@bew@floss.social avatar

@fabian no newline, but without user@host, git info on the right prompt, and a few optional prompt segments that appear when needed like the status code of last cmd, shell level, number of bg jobs..
And the current prompt is a different color compared to my old prompts.

Anyone in my timeline using ?

bew,
@bew@floss.social avatar

@kushal I'm not usually in your timeline but I watch the tag ^^

I've been using it for ~3-4 years on Linux X11 & Windows (for work) 🙃

bew,
@bew@floss.social avatar

@kushal Let's say I very much like the flexibility of it, extreme input customization (of keys & mouse events), the responsive & very talented main dev (Wez), and it's cross-platform so I get this tailor-made Terminal everywhere ❤
And on top of that it's written in Rust, and managed to land a few PRs while learning the language 🙃

Here is my config if you wanna take a look:
https://github.com/bew/dotfiles/tree/main/gui/wezterm

bew,
@bew@floss.social avatar

@kushal Ahah yeah it can seem like it but it's really not that complex, I saw other people do funny complex things with Wezterm ^^
The most complicated bits of that config are the cfg_keys.lua & cfg_mouse.lua files, everything else is really just me setting some configs, and some helper Lua functions to merge all the files together :)

If you want to read it, start in wezterm.lua and follow the Lua code!

Linus restarted the 's 6.8 merge window and merged about 30 change-sets with about ~750 changes in the past few hours.[1]

Overall he merged about 11.000 commits since the start of the merge window for this . From looking at -next about 2500 changes are left: http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html

So… is there some kind of ANSI escape code (OSC?) that a application running in can send to make @termux switch the soft keyboard to "text input mode" (where autocorrect and stuff are available)?
https://wiki.termux.com/wiki/Touch_Keyboard

This would be awesome for e.g. (or ): Enter insert mode, the keyboard switches to text input mode. You input some text, hit Esc, the keyboard goes back to "raw" mode.

bew,
@bew@floss.social avatar

@scy You could ask Termux people to make one, and then configure neovim to send the sequence appropriately on mode change 🤔

If you have a (computer) mouse with more than 3 buttons (left, right, middle), what actions/shortcuts do you have assigned to the 4th, 5th, 6th etc.? Looking for inspiration.

bew, (edited )
@bew@floss.social avatar

@fabian the main ones I use are:

  • Next page
  • Previous page
  • Ctrl
    (these buttons are on the side)

I also have Shift and Alt there, but I use them less often

bew,
@bew@floss.social avatar

@fabian next/prev page is not page up/down, it's more Alt-Left/Right arrows to go back-n-forth in navigation history, but as a single key and it's supported in many programs

I'm horrified at the wasted space used by apps on my phone nowadays..
I've installed Microsoft Authenticator 16 days ago as I'm starting a new work contract, registered 4 accounts on it, and used it maybe 10 times..

And you're telling me the app takes... 270M of my precious internal storage??

How could this be..
👉 I'm really questioning here if you have an idea, how an app doing remote authentication can be THIS BIG ??

I'm seeing this trend with most apps now ><

Triffen, to Ergonomics
@Triffen@floss.social avatar

How do you press all left shortcuts, like Ctrl W? I have a habit of pressing Ctrl with my left pinky which works well in many cases, but in case of those left shortcuts it's really painful to bend it that much while extending the index finger to reach W.
So I'm trying to teach myself to press modifiers with my thumb instead, and same goes for capital letters on that side... that's more brainpower I'm used to allocating to !

bew, (edited )
@bew@floss.social avatar

@Triffen something that completely changed the way I use the keyboard was remapping the caps-lock key to Control, and even to both Control (when pressed with another key) and Escape (when pressed and released in less than 500ms).
For capital letters, it's usually easier to use the right shift key with your right hand, and just type the letters with your left hand
