OK, who broke @Vivaldi?

I received an update overnight on both my android devices and now none my PWAs load. 😔

6.7.3335.85

bumble,

@wiase @Vivaldi glad it's not just me. We can share the pain. Hopefully the boffins in the broom cupboard are aware and fixing.

Meet Haai.

They're the mascot for , an instance powered by @Sharkey (cc: @ruud). It's a community of roughly ~120 members, and part of the rapidly growing squad of instances based on this fork.

Haai is also the Dutch word for shark, and also is a homophone for a greeting (Hi!).

bumble,

@vsp @Sharkey @ruud Welcome to the family Haai. :bumble:

Hey, @bumble! I am trying out the bridgyfed bridge to Bluesky... and it works! Yay. Only one thing doesn't work: I can't seem to see interactions (replies and likes) from there on here. While a friend of mine on another (mastodon) server received a reply from Bluesky and this one I do see.

Could this be due to a server setting? (I have no idea tbh, I'm asking just in case you know immediately...)

:blobbee_laptop:

bumble,

@wiase I confess to knowing little in way of the operation of Bridgefed. I assume it uses the Mastodon API? The **Key style instances don't implement it all.

bumble,

@wiase Keep me updated. I am curious and will do anything I can to help

@pixelfed How does a user move from One PixelFed Server to another?

There's an option to export PF data, but only an Import from Insta!

Hello @bumble,
I'm having trouble with the search function. I don't get results when I search for keywords, neither with nor without a #. Is that something on the server side, or could it be just me?
Thanks!

bumble,

@theresmiling oops. I missed this message.

I was having trouble before with the search. Let me look into it.

bumble,

@theresmiling yes, the indexer is not loading. I will try and rectify at the weekend. I'm away on holiday at the moment but back tomorrow.
Sorry for the problem.

What are we all using for our system these days?

I'm looking for something open source, cloud based. Ideally self hosted but anything good considered.

It's for a small project I am working on so I don't need something stuffed full of features.

Thanks :bumble:

Calling any :

What's the best way to tidy up the public/system/cache folder in a instance?

My public/system/media_attachments is on 3.3GB.
However, public/system/cache/media_attachments is 22GB!
Similarly, public/system/accounts is 97MB, whereas cache/accounts is 22GB

How should I clear down this massive cache?

I've tried tootctl cache clear but nothing seems to change in the cache folder.

In total the cache folder is 55GB, everything outwith cache consumes only 6GB. It's making my backups massive and long to run.

Any help, or Boosts appreciated.

:bumble:

bumble,

@Tealk Thanks. I had seen this earlier.

However, looking at the script... as an example: cleanup_tasks.sh --cacheclear just runs tootctl cache clear as I have already done.

Or am I missing something?

bumble,

@Tealk I run several other tootctl automatically each day, which keeps my other folders trim. I just can't get the cache down.

I will try your suggestion

bumble,

@Tealk Daily, I run

bin/tootctl preview_cards remove --days 5
bin/tootctl media remove --remove-headers
bin/tootctl media remove --days 5

bumble,

@Tealk The other folders are kept clean, but the cache never seems to reduce

✨ Simpler Settings

Admins can now more easily manage Pixelfed settings from the dashboard!

You can configure many settings without having to restart your server or run commands 😎

We even have a list of default rules you can import with a single click!

I'm honestly considering a paid verification program in Pixelfed to help sustain the project long term.

It would be a centralized list, and would be present in clients, regardless of server.

A blue checkmark would not only help our project financially, but would also provide a trusted visual mark of verification.

Thoughts?

bumble,

@dansup The added complication is how do you handle those of us who host Pixelfed servers for users? Is this verification funding only available to mothership users?

If someone is interested to apply the UI-changes I created for @Vivaldi , then head over to the public repository https://github.com/saschadiercks/vivaldi-ui-mods

There is also a small introduction on how to apply the new layout and which additional theme I used to make it look even cleaner.

Vivaldi then looks like this:

bumble,

@saschadiercks @Vivaldi Excellent. It works 😆 Love it

Oh, fuck yeah. That's better. I went into my settings here on Sharkey and made the post field have a higher min height, because the 90px it is set to was soooo damn cramped. I might have gone a little extra putting it to 250px, and I can always go back and edit it later, but this is so much better. 90px at my font size mean it was like maybe five lines of text? I'm a wordy bitch, I need room to work, especially so I can actually look back and proof read what I just wrote.

If I write a novel of a post, and have to attempt to scroll back through it five lines at a time, my ADHD is gonna kick in and I'm just gonna post that bitch and then go back and edit it five times as I see typo after typo each time I look after editing. >.<

bumble,

@deathkitten @picard A few weeks ago I discussed a change with the Sharkey team on this very issue. 90px is far too small, and it's too narrow -- with so much wasted space on the left and right of the screen when posting. I modified the server code to increase it and make a global change by recompiling but it didn't work! The dev team also said they were looking at an adjustable/preference type thing.

I must revisit

Also again for those spreading more rumors:

Sharkey is NOT dead, it will NOT die

we will continue as usual.

bumble,

@Sharkey People come and go in projects all the time. It's frustrating that some outsiders then want to spread rumours.

We Distribute Media has been successfully incorporated as a nonprofit at the state level, but we're still waiting at the federal level. It's a slow process, but I have high hopes.

Once something initial is put into place, we can focus on the next phase: applying for grants, sponsorships, and crowdfunding.

The ultimate goal is to have an entity capable of covering operating costs, and paying writers, an editor, and people to help with A/V production.

All of this is new and scary and exciting, and I have a lot to learn. But for now, the waiting process is painfully slow.

bumble,

@deadsuperhero well done. Sounds exciting and interesting.

lol am I like over-designing this? 😂

I need a way to test this but I don't have a Mastodon server for testing. Don't really want to send random test reports to other instance admins 😬

Not on dev site yet, still on my local dev.

Working on a new @pixelfed app build that fixes the admin dashboard, and a few other fixes!

It's building now 😎

bumble,

@dansup Sorry to be a pain, and that guy (gal), but when are we due a new Android version? It's been over a month since you said it would "ship today". I can't admin from the app.

I know you are all about Loops now but.....

thanks

bumble,

@dansup thank you. Downloaded it from the website
