Feature Request:

I'd like the PWA to show the URL when you hover over a link in an email.

Currently it's a wild-west gamble -- I like to see where I am going. Safety first!

Is anyone running/updating a list of servers to block in the current spam wave.

I have seen a few but they are out of date by a few days. I can add another 8 servers today so far! I'm happy to contribute to an open list, or create one.

There is a lot of coming in today again, as someone/group tries to flood the Fediverse with posts.

I'm noticing many small instances are being used.

Remember, as a small (even single user) instance you should take your role seriously. Lock down your sign-up if you don't have the time or resources to moderate. Otherwise your entire server may be blocked across the , making your experience here very restricted.

If you need help, just ask.

OK. Here's another "developing in the open" post.

I've written an server which can be deployed as a single file.

No databases, no libraries, no dependencies, no frameworks. Also, no advanced features!

It is currently powering the user example@example.viii.fi

I am looking for alpha testers. All you need is a domain, PHP 8, and the ability to add a custom .htaccess rule to your server.

If you'd like to try it out & give me feedback, please drop me a message.

@Edent @example I'd be very interested in trying this out. It might help with a little project I'm working on, where I need to interact on the fedi, but don't want an entire serve and the bloat.

We just released important security patches for versions 4.1, 4.2, nightly, and the already discontinued 3.5 and 4.0.

If you are using nightly, you can upgrade to the 4.3.0-nightly.2024-02-15-security tag to get the patches.

Please upgrade as soon as possible!

Great to read that someone has taken the reigns of the code. A new release today too.

Some of the comments on the release are interesting around how this all came to be, and the future. It may not be forever, but at least FF is for now and will hopefully settle FF admins until they have a plan and more info.

Alright, I think we now have a better idea of what's happening with , so I might as well give a small update. Kainoa quit, and left the project to naskya, who is a person I appreciate very much, as they've always been kind and polite and willing to help. I also think they're very devoted to Firefish, and basically were the last person actively caring about the project. As far as I know, they intend to keep maintaining and developing Firefish, and a new stable version will finally soon be released. This is great news, as you don't need to worry that your server is running unmaintained and vulnerable software. So, alarm off everybody, no need to abandon ship.

As for us, we're standing by our decision to rebase to . The changes we want to do are long term plans, but we've started redesigning some things and, whenever we are ready, I hope we'll show you something worth your attention. So yeah, firefish, iceshrimp and catodon are all alive and valid options (the first two to be precise, for the time being). All projects share code fixes and I think we're on very good terms, here in our corner of the fediverse. Enjoy the ride.

Hey, @bumble, do you happen to know if lists will work properly soon in ? I have the same problem with lists as over at Firefish: They only ever show the last added account's posts. Tried to remake the list already - but the problem persists. ​:blobbee_sob:​

@wiase I've created a list with a few people in it and let in start gathering up posts. It seems to be working ok.

Note that when you update a list is does not back-fill with old posts, but new ones as they arrive.
