I'm still trying to figure me out, find my place in the scheme of things. I do better and best when I'm doing. Major life changes this year, another reset button engaged. Fingers crossed it'll be the last one. I've never been tamed or settled, but thinking it might be nice for a change. Some days are better than others. Embracing tootfinder

    @Teri_Kanefield thanks for that. In re: "Crime #3: conspiracy against rights

    This is the interesting one. Here is a good summary from the New York Times:

    “Congress enacted that statute after the Civil War to provide a tool for federal agents to go after Southern whites, including Ku Klux Klan members, who engaged in terrorism to prevent formerly enslaved African Americans from voting. But in the modern era, it has been used more broadly, including in cases of voting fraud conspiracies.“

    “. . . modern usage of the law raised the possibility that Trump, who baselessly declared the election he lost to have been rigged, could face prosecution on accusations of trying to rig the election himself.”

    As Marcy Wheeler said, we knew all along that Trump and pals were deliberately trying to suppress the votes of Black Americans. All you have to do is look at the cities they were targeting."

    I hope someone goes after Alabama for this one, and maybe Texas? I've got a niggling there's another but have reached brain saturation.

    Great recap and process summary. Thanks again

    The Chinese zodiac says rabbit, but for me, it's undeniably the year of the snake. I've lived in Oregon for over 20 years, and I've already had more and better snake sightings this year than any since I've been here. I'm choosing to see it as a good omen, or a sign of good snake population numbers, which would be even better.

    This garter liked their spot in the wood enough to let me get close. After a few shots I left them alone.

    caragraph,
    @caragraph@lor.sh avatar

    @ianrosewrites what a beauty!

    In native American animal medicine the snake carries the energy of transmutation, the power to change the negative into the positive. So from that perspective you're spot on. And I'm ever hopeful

    Motherfuckers soon start realizing that we've curated a left-leaning space and one reason it's so nice and pleasant here (relatively-speaking) is that we've ostracized and treated right-wing fascist provacateurs like the cancer they are.

    Unlike literally every other space that presumes they deserve respect, consideration, and a platform--

    This space has realized that if you let the nazis in, you end up with a nazi bar.

    And I don't see that changing any time soon, and it's one of the best things about this place.

    Admins moving en masse to suspend Newsmax account and basically ban all its horseshit from their server is an example of this.

    Unlike every other place where these opinions are elevated and boosted to foster outrage and 'engagement' here we can treat that shit like the cancer it is.

    And hold anyone accountable who platforms it.

    We don't do the whole "both sides are equally valid positions" shit here.

    @caragraph@lor.sh avatar

    @oliphant thank you! I'm sure to be in the minority but I'm glad it's designed to work like this, and grateful it works as designed.

    Lots of people ask for actions to take to help elect progressive candidates.

    Here’s another one of my favorites- Movement Labs. They work with progressive candidates around the country and also help Democrats run in places where they traditionally haven’t.

    Their next project is going to be in North Carolina- a state that needs some help. Get involved or save this for when you can. Their work is effective for progressive change.

    @Huntn00 when I moved back to Georgia from Asheville to help my son (I rented his house) he warned me not to put up any yard signs or display any bumper stickers, advised me to register as an independent voter, and admonished me to not engage in any political discussions.

    Not all of us who are rural are okay with it, but we understand they have guns and are not afraid or unwilling to use them. They are belligerent in the extreme, often itching for a fight, maybe drunk or high, and certainly not reasonable.

    Even my neighbors understand they have to be cautious. He spoke out against the maggots a few years back, was immediately fired, and hasn't been employed since.

    It's not as clear cut as it seems

    One of my biggest concerns about switching over to Mastodon when I did, was losing the online Black community I developed on birb site, many of whom were very helpful to my continuing to thrive as I negotiated white supremacist spaces in my professional and personal life. I am very happy to find another such community here, and want to give a shout outs to SOME (wish I could tag everybody - the search function is pretty terrible here for some reason) of the people that keep me coming back to the Fediverse. Love you guys!
