We need a movement for conscientious objection to ReCaptchas. I don’t want to be forced to participate in training machine learning models to identify sidewalks, crosswalks, buses and cars in order to go about my daily life digitally.

I don’t want driverless cars on my city streets. I don’t believe the fiction that this technology will ever be safe.

I do not consent to using my own cognitive labor to train the models that will mow down people on foot or bikes later with no accountability.

Have I missed any breakthroughs in workflows people are using for adding a new post on a static site from mobile?

I need markdown only, images nice to have but not super important, ideally avoiding a full hosted CMS solution. site on GitHub + Netlify fwiw.

I've done new files on GitHub mobile and drafted a PR that way, but it's not the most pleasant experience esp for composing front matter; better for editing an existing page.

Just learned Bikes at Work makes trailers that attach to bikes, one of which is big enough it could carry an Urban Arrow if say, ours broke down on a ride somewhere and we needed to haul it home. That would be a lot easier than needing to immediately go rent a truck...
Anyone have one? Or know of other options I should consider?

You know how you can buy annotated editions of like the Bible or the collected works of Martin Luther or Shakespeare or whatever?

Who's making that but for key works of feminist and queer theory??

Anyone moved a save file (specifically for Baldur's Gate 3) from a PC to a steam deck? I have the basic process down but ultimately failed to get my save file from my wife's PC to my new Deck, and had to start a new character last night. But I like my old character!

Documented the process I followed here - really I think the paths are probably just wrong? The mechanics of transferring via ssh seemed to work fine.

So... Are there RSS reader apps out there right now that are really good at being RSS readers? With nice modern UX?

If not, why not? Is it a hard technical challenge or more one that's considered not worth pursuing due to lack of potential users who'd want it?

Anyone use Protonmail as your primary email? It seems like it'd be nice to more fully divest from Google. Gmail/Google Calendar are my last remaining strong ties.

Torn between the desire to get my 18 month old more board books and the knowledge we're going to keep reading the same 3 Sandra Boynton books (my favorites, at this point) anyways.

Where do I go for writing & how-tos on living with more intentionality that's like.. middle of the road? Not tech-bro-optimize-everything, not astrology. I'm not religious. I have a kid and a full time job.

I wanna do art and build community and learn stuff and write, but it's hard to make any of that happen around parenting & work demands.

We went to Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City this week. (All weeks should be a 3 day work week with an extra weekend in the middle, imo)

I blogged about our stay!

Last night a woman in an SUV honked three times as she came up behind me and the baby on the Urban Arrow, then pulled up alongside us and slowed down. We stopped to chat.

She is in her second trimester with her third kid, the other two being tweens. She wanted to know what kind of bike I was riding and where she could get one - nearly in tears, she told me how hard it's been for her to be less active while pregnant, and looking towards having a young baby again.

Can everyone on agree whether we're using the plural form or the singular form for hashtags? Or can Mastodon core give us a feature that enables smooshing hashtags together if one is the plural form of the other?

( vs , vs , etc)

Had a Brain Blast tonight about how I could let VS Code do the heavy lifting for me by generating frontmatter for new blog posts on my site, using Snippets. Should have done this ages ago!!

Feeling wistful about my Christian theology-loving days today. That feeling of there's so much to read and learn, there's so much to think through-- what others have said before, what people are saying now. Figuring out how to translate what I'd been reading and thinking about to a wider audience through sermons. Sometimes I think it'd be nice if I still believed in God, because I loved so much about my Christianity.

I don't know what secular thing to channel that energy into, or how.

On a happier note, the incarcerated woman I hung out with this morning was a Fall Out Boy fan and I got to introduce her to a couple of their new songs. It was a good time.

hi - what electric bike (if any) would you recommend to an adult who learned to ride fairly recently? Lives in an urban setting, looking to do leisure/fitness riding mostly for now. Fairly cautious rider.

I haven't been on mastodon lately but I see people talking about bridgy and consent issues, and I'm not sure the context.

Some folks (like me) copy the replies made on their own blog posts posted to mastodon to their own blogs as webmentions. Is that bad, should I not be doing that?

My friend who works in academic publishing and has fancy English degrees mentioned she wanted to have a website some day where she can list the Great Farts of Literature and I am so excited to build this for her.

My almost two year old just said "mommy, I want milk" - a full sentence! Can't argue with that; I dutifully went to fill her cup back up.

And realized at the fridge I'd left my phone unattended, which she was grinning over when I came back.

Did I just get hoodwinked??

Has their been any investigative, state-of-capitalism deep-dive kind of journalism explaining why every single company in the world wants to know what I thought of interacting with their website or staff, every single time?

No one's really making decisions based on these survey results that no one I know fills out but gets emails and texts for constantly... right? Right???

Unbelievable curbside find today on my way home from a lovely solo breakfast. I’m sure 2yo will like it fine, but this is the Barbie Dreamhouse of my dreams.

The neighbor who helped me load it up said it’d been sitting there for a few days, but I couldn’t bear to leave it for 10 minutes to go home to get a different vehicle in case it got snatched up by someone else. Turns out I didn’t have to!!

The doll house is affixed to the front basket platform of a Tern HSD electric cargo bike. It is standing upright, the roof of the dollhouse a couple feet above the handlebars. A pannier on the back holds extra dollhouse pieces.
