Unbelievable curbside find today on my way home from a lovely solo breakfast. I’m sure 2yo will like it fine, but this is the Barbie Dreamhouse of my dreams.

The neighbor who helped me load it up said it’d been sitting there for a few days, but I couldn’t bear to leave it for 10 minutes to go home to get a different vehicle in case it got snatched up by someone else. Turns out I didn’t have to!!

The doll house is affixed to the front basket platform of a Tern HSD electric cargo bike. It is standing upright, the roof of the dollhouse a couple feet above the handlebars. A pannier on the back holds extra dollhouse pieces.

Has their been any investigative, state-of-capitalism deep-dive kind of journalism explaining why every single company in the world wants to know what I thought of interacting with their website or staff, every single time?

No one's really making decisions based on these survey results that no one I know fills out but gets emails and texts for constantly... right? Right???

Zoom finally updated their Mac app's design. It's an improvement, but they used a hexagon instead of an octagon as a "stop sign," and it's going to drive me insane until they change it again in like 10 years.

Also, why is there an X inside of it? A stop sign already means stop. It's like they couldn't decide on an icon, so they used two.

@Chris this just made me realize that my 2 year old's enthusiastic labeling of stop signs as "hockeygons" (hexagons) is not precocious, she's actually bad at shapes and failing to recognize it's actually an octagon. (Which also I didn't notice either, so...)

@cory @zachleat my two year old was very upset last night that I was trying to carry the big stick in the yard to the stick pile by myself, so we decided we could carry it together. maybe we could all just share the big stick? And everyone gets a small stick to hit the bell at the playground with?

I saw a headline the other day that said “Everything has to end, even Bluey”. Obviously I refused to click on it. What I don’t know can’t hurt me.

They let SpongeBob SquarePants run for 14+ seasons despite constant articles over those years (though perhaps more earlier on) about how SpongeBob in particular was rotting kids’ brains.

Bluey is too dang wholesome to call it quits after a mere 3.

Anyone use Protonmail as your primary email? It seems like it'd be nice to more fully divest from Google. Gmail/Google Calendar are my last remaining strong ties.

Update I think FastMail might be a better fit for what I need right now! Out of google’s prying eyes but still lots of usability & integrations with things like phone contacts, and full text search which I rely on a lot for finding old receipts or conversations.

A few days ago I went to see “Hades Town”. My first foray into Broadway shows. Spectacular set, lighting, production, singing, etc. I struggled to understand it all (I am terrible picking out lyrics), but didn’t matter most of the time. Was surprised ’s Ani Difranco was in it, that’s how disconnected I am.

@aardrian I also struggle with understanding musical lyrics. At a show I recently went to, my mom who had dutifully read the whole program pointed out at intermission that there was an app I could download with approved screen settings (dark, on a separate filtered WiFi network so no chance of notifications) that would discreetly show me real time subtitles in my lap. Tried it for the second half and it was excellent, really helped my enjoyment!

@aardrian it looks like the thing I used was Gala Pro, at a traveling Broadway performance (is that what off Broadway means? Idk) in a theater in Omaha. Some Broadway places may also have an I-Caption system where they give you a handheld device instead of relying on an app on your own android or ios phone.

We need a movement for conscientious objection to ReCaptchas. I don’t want to be forced to participate in training machine learning models to identify sidewalks, crosswalks, buses and cars in order to go about my daily life digitally.

I don’t want driverless cars on my city streets. I don’t believe the fiction that this technology will ever be safe.

I do not consent to using my own cognitive labor to train the models that will mow down people on foot or bikes later with no accountability.

Maggie got a flat tire yesterday, so I had to break out the cargo bike tow truck to get her bike to a shop. (Accessing the rear tire on these e-bikes is a nightmare, and it's always the rear tire that springs a leak.)

Some folks (like me) copy the replies made on their own blog posts posted to mastodon to their own blogs as webmentions. Is that bad, should I not be doing that?
