There are at least eight federal cases filed in six states and five circuits challenging the Biden administration's Title IX rule.

Catch up on what all has been filed and where the challenges stand tonight, at Law Dork: https://www.lawdork.com/p/challenges-biden-admin-title-ix-many-cases

Always a treat to hear — and, tonight, see — @Dahlialith Mark Joseph Stern & @ifilljustice discussing the law.

I am so glad @ifilljustice mentioned the Anderson 14th Amendment case. Her amicus brief in the case is an absolute must-read — especially in light of the decision we got.

JUST IN: The new (equal protection) challengers to Louisiana's two majority-Black district congressional map filed their response to the state and the Voting Rights Act challengers at SCOTUS, seeking to keep in place an order blocking the new map from being used. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24661052-23a994-and-23a1002-response

For those following along, Judge Mark Pittman's visual timeline criticizing the Fifth Circuit's actions in the CFPB credit card late fee rule challenge — discussed here: https://www.lawdork.com/p/trump-appointee-pittman-blasts-fifth-circuit — was formally entered on the Fifth Circuit's docket this morning. So, we'll see how that goes.

Two big things on Friday that I covered at Law Dork over the weekend:
• Judge Mark Pittman blocked the CFPB credit card late fee rule — but went on to aggressively push back on the actions of the Fifth Circuit (his bosses, in one sense) in the case: https://www.lawdork.com/p/trump-appointee-pittman-blasts-fifth-circuit

• Justice Clarence Thomas told the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Conference that Washington is a “hideous place,” which I point out follows 40+ years of his amassing power in Washington — and exploiting it. https://www.lawdork.com/p/justice-thomas-attacks-dc-as-hideous

On Friday, Justice Thomas attacked Washington as a "hideous place."

Tonight, I wrote about all that in my Sunday SCOTUS thoughts piece at Law Dork. Trust me, you'll want to read. https://www.lawdork.com/p/justice-thomas-attacks-dc-as-hideous

The Fifth Circuit is so far off the rails that a conservative Trump appointee district court judge had to draw them a chart to explain.

Read Law Dork to get the story on Judge Mark Pittman's Friday ruling that you might have missed in other reports: https://www.lawdork.com/p/trump-appointee-pittman-blasts-fifth-circuit

In the case over the CFPB’s credit card late fee rule, Judge Mark Pittman on Friday blocked the rule from going into effect this week. He also, though, strongly criticized the Fifth Circuit’s actions in the case as encouraging party manipulation of cases. https://www.lawdork.com/p/trump-appointee-pittman-blasts-fifth-circuit

Mark Pittman is a conservative Trump appointee, and even he is fed up with the Fifth Circuit — as seen in his anger-infused visual timeline detailing the Fifth Circuit’s actions surrounding its claim that Pittman “effectively denied” the Chamber’s request. https://www.lawdork.com/p/trump-appointee-pittman-blasts-fifth-circuit

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trial judge call out their appeals court with a condescending timeline visual before.

Tonight, I dig into Judge Mark Pittman’s anger at the Fifth Circuit — the court to which all of his cases are appealed. https://www.lawdork.com/p/trump-appointee-pittman-blasts-fifth-circuit

BREAKING: Judge Mark Pittman blocks the CFPB's credit card late fee rule under Fifth Circuit precedent re: CFPB's funding structure.

He does so, however, in a ruling that repeatedly challenges the Fifth Circuit's behavior in the Chamber's case. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.txnd.387342/gov.uscourts.txnd.387342.82.0_1.pdf

Judge Cannon says setting a trial date for Trump in Florida would be “imprudent,” more or less because: (1) she has created the problem herself through earlier delays, and (2) she doesn’t seem to know how to do law judge things. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.flsd.648652/gov.uscourts.flsd.648652.530.0.pdf

We got an important post-Roe right to travel decision yesterday. Judge Thompson walks through the history, law, and AG Marshall’s effort to ignore both by threatening to prosecute those who help women get abortions out of state where they’re legal. https://www.lawdork.com/p/alabama-right-to-travel-abortion-dismiss-denial

An important ruling today out of Alabama, rebuking GOP AG Steve Marshall's threatened prosecutions of those who help people get abortions out of state in places where the abortion would be legal. Two lawsuits challenging the threats will now proceed. https://www.lawdork.com/p/alabama-right-to-travel-abortion-dismiss-denial

HUGE: A federal judge today denied Alabama AG Steve Marshall's request to dismiss a lawsuit challenging his threat to prosecute those who help people obtain abortions out of state, citing the constitutional right to travel and the First Amendment. https://www.lawdork.com/p/alabama-right-to-travel-abortion-dismiss-denial

On the First Amendment: "The court cannot accept the Attorney General’s [argument], which would have dangerous consequences for the freedom of expression."
