It’s really surprised me what a positive boost to my mental health I’ve gotten simply by installing on a couple of old Windows machines. I’m excited to get home from work, boot those computers up and play with them. I only use Windows now when I need Photoshop. Maybe I’ll be able give that up when I get more familiar with GIMP. Thanks to everyone here that recommended Mint. I’m loving life right now and it’s crazy that this is all it took.

@BootsChantilly I'm glad I never started smoking cigarettes, barely drink and knew enough to stay away from powders back then. A roommate in the 80s sold meth and I saw what that did to people. So sad that that is still ruining communities. @Pierrette

@Pierrette It’s a very tough addiction. My mom’s best friend is in her 90s and says as soon as she is diagnosed with a terminal illness, the first thing she’s doing is taking up smoking again

I feel a bit weird, sharing this here, but if it helps one person, I’m happy to.

The TL;DR - get your colonoscopies.

A few months ago, my insurance company sent me an at home fecal test. I did one a year ago and passed, but this time I got a positive result. I was sure it was a false positive. I didn’t have any symptoms and, to my knowledge, no one in my extended family has ever had cancer of any kind.

It took two months to get a colonoscopy scheduled. The result? Fourteen polyps removed 😳. I just got the lab results and they were ALL precancerous. Thank goodness BCBS sent me that test or I’d still be growing those things.

My takeaway - even if you have no family history or symptoms, get screened. The prep is a pain in the ass, but not horrible and the procedure is nothing. You never know until you know, and then it might be too late. I really feel like I dodged a bullet.
