@AMG8697 when you’re at the FCC I politely like to ask to change the rule that prohibits someone that has a HAM and GMRS license from using the same radio to communicate in both services. Requiring 2+ radios creates unnecessary e-waste + complexity. Thx for your consideration. #ham#hamRadio#gmrs#gmrsRadio#fcc
@dave@davew thank you for the thoughtful response, and I’m sorry I used a complaining tone. I could have simply thanked you for posting on the topic and added the link to the account here on Mastodon. I forgot that the accumulation of many tiny aggressions for someone who has a large audience can result in a vastly different (and more negative) experience. Again- I’m sorry for that.
I’ve thought a bit about your question - why do I care? Is my preference important? And why should you care? Introspectively, I do care about the success of open, federated social media. For me that means open-protocol based server-to-server federation, not just tools that make it easier for client applications to cross-post. The work that you and others did to make RSS successful was instrumental in systems I've built in the past - and I want that same level of success for social media networks like Mastodon.
Hi all- I know we see these all the time — people who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own. And it pisses me off that our system will literally let people die rather than reform, but here we are. Zelda is a friend-of-a-friend. Please help her stay alive.
@aimee (excuse my ignorance here) Are there standards / laws like GDPR, CCPA, etc. that apply to data held by governments? I’ve certainly seen companies rapidly advance their data governance posture in response to these laws.
I've updated my #Python sample application to use "ruff" instead of "flake8" and friends. There is so much confusion on how to structure and install a Python program, but fortunately the community is moving in the right direction at a nice page.
After many delays, we finally got a long end-fed half-wave antenna wire up into the Very Tall Tree on the edge of our lot. We used a drone to lift fishing line up and over, and a weight to keep it below the prop blades. Then pulled a paracord line, then the antenna wire up. Secured with bungee and counterweights to allow for wind - fingers crossed 🤞on that. (Zoom in on the second photo to see the wire)
@WB2EEE I can’t recommend one drone over another — I borrowed a friend’s drone (and the friend to pilot it!). We used a DJI Mavic Pro, which was fine — it had no problem lifting the line + weight. There are also remote control drop devices for these drones, but we just decided to try the “up, over, and down” approach, which worked ok. The on-drone view of positioning and ability to just stop & hold position is amazing. I’m going to research <250g drones for this as well (cheaper, less restrictions).
