#TodayInHistory 1984 - Ashton-Tate introduces the dBase III relational #database program for IBM PC-compatible computers.
dBase was one of the first database management systems for microcomputers and the most successful in its day. The dBase system included the core database engine, a query system, a forms engine, and a #programming language that tied all of these components together.
@vga256 didn't have a decent midi device when this game was released, only a soundblaster, as many people. I'll be sure to test it with my mt32-pi now!
Anybody else who still gets super excited by new, modern, releases for retro systems? Take this, just delivered, fine example - Rogue Declan for the #Commodore#Amiga by Nivrig Games and published by poly.play
@dirkdierickx As somebody who has owned a copy of Mega Man Xtreme 2 for Game Boy Color since the early 2000s, it is surreal to see this bubble up to the surface all these years later
I was familiar with the other Zook games, but it's kind of interesting to see how much sprite-work was lifted for this version. Cool stuff, thanks for sharing
@rootcompute
There's also art stolen from the first Mega Man Xtreme. I spotted an edit of the cutscene art for Geemel, as well as an edit of Zain that added a cowboy hat. (If you don't know these two, they're original bosses who only appeared in Xtreme 1) @dirkdierickx
@dirkdierickx it's some top tier academic shitposting too. IBM have been cranking out questionable claims for years in the hopes of stringing investors on, so it's very funny to see folks dunking on them for it.
#TodayInHistory 1984 - #Amstrad releases the CPC 464 personal computer. It features a #Z80 CPU, 64kB RAM, includes a monitor and built-in tape drive. More than 2 million units sold in Europe.
#TodayInHistory 1964 – #IBM announces the System/360. It was extremely successful, allowing customers to purchase a smaller system they could expand, if their needs grew, without reprogramming application software. It influenced computer design for years to come. Many consider it one of history's most successful computers.
@dirkdierickx@failedLyndonLaRouchite Yeah, I walked in the machine room one day and there was a CE in there. "Ohai!", I said, and he replied "Your machine just called and told us he needs a disk drive replaced, so here I am."
