So uh I accidentally unlocked Final Cut Pro on the iPad Pro (2018), so I took it for a spin. It all just worked, and was perfectly usable? Even the 4K export was fast.
Makes you wonder why officially it only lets you install on an iPad with an M-series chip…
10 years ago today, my friend Paul Thorsen and I released GBA4iOS as seniors in high school. I'll never forget that day, or the many hours we spent together after school building it 💜
To celebrate, I’m excited to announce I’ve revived GBA4iOS for the new era of computing: meet GBA4vOS, the premier Game Boy Advance emulator for visionOS 🥽
@rileytestut WarioWare: Twisted! is such a gem. “WarioWare: Mega Microgames!” was released only a year and a half prior, but rather than just repacking the same game with accelerometer support, they redeveloped everything from the ground up.
crazy engineering: when the Vision Pro has a total system crash, the camera pass through keeps working (!). If it’s extreme, it will prompt that you have 30 seconds before it goes dark.
The "any string of numbers is a phone number" is the biggest anti-feature of Apple OS'es. Its false positive rate must be >90%. How is there still no way to turn it off.
Okay wow I’m loving this interactive timeline of internet history, already learned so much. Plus it works great on mobile! https://neal.fun/internet-artifacts/
@rileytestut “McDonalds.com was originally purchased by Joshua Quittner, a writer for WIRED, who was researching a story on domain squatting when he realized McDonalds.com was available. He reached out to McDonald's media relations to ask why they hadn't bought it, only to discover that nobody at McDonald's seemed to understand the internet. He told the company they could reach him at ronald@mcdonalds.com if they ever wanted the domain - which they eventually did.”
iPad feature I'd love: deep sleep. I find whenever I go a few days or a week between using an iPad, it's often dead or almost dead. An auto-deep sleep mode after 24 hours of non-use would be awesome, even if it took 5 seconds or so to wake back up
Your favorite iPhone Mastodon client (wish I could list more than 4 options in a poll, feel free to reply if your favorite isn't listed, e.g. the official Mastodon client):
Apple's Hypervisor-based virtual machine tech is so good, they could easily put a version of macOS, a la the old Classic environment on Mac OS X, on iPad, with full graphics acceleration, today. If the iPad is never going to bridge that gap itself, maybe this really is the best way to go about it. Sandbox the entirety of macOS into an app so it can never do any damage to the rest of the iPad. It's also a regulatory get-out-of-jail-free card that Apple can hide behind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDZOjIGHka0
