In the past six years, prominent tech and venture capital leaders – including the hedge fund manager William Oberndorf, the billionaire investor Michael Moritz, the cryptocurrency booster Chris Larsen, the PayPal co-founder David Sacks, the Y Combinator CEO, Garry Tan, and the Pantheon CEO, Zachary Rosen – have invested at least $5.7m into reshaping San Francisco’s policies, according to the analysis of public data. Because not all of their donations are publicly disclosed, the sum of their contributions may be far higher. In a solidly Democratic city, they have joined forces with traditional business and real estate elites in an effort to oust some of its most progressive leaders and undo its most progressive policies. To achieve those goals, they have created a loose network of interlocking non-profits, dark money groups and political action committees – a framework colloquially known as a “grey money” network – that allows them to obscure the true scale of their involvement in San Francisco’s municipal politics.
Zack Rosen is the co-founder and CEO of web-hosting company Pantheon. He is a co-founder of California YIMBY, a state-wide advocacy group for increased housing development, and co-founder of the tech-funded political advocacy group Abundant SF. He gave $15,000 to the school board recall, at least $25,000 to GrowSF, and $100,000 to the pro-housing Prop. D during the November 2022 election.

It's 2023. If you still can't find anyone besides your white male friends to speak at conferences, time to step aside and get out of the way.

Now imagine my surprise that 2 of those women are FAKE profiles.

They do not exist.

To spell it out why this conference generated fake women speakers. Because the organizer wants big names and it probably seemed like an easy way to address their diversity concerns. Incredibly lazy.

Big news! Pantheon is finally responding to the widespread frustration in the #Drupal community about their platforming hate groups. They are changing their terms of service and will stop hosting ADF and other customers designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as gate groups.

Still think we don't need to actively work for marginalized people to be treated fairly in tech? It's not enough that we are constantly battling institutions and cultures that are implicitly biased against us, some cis dudes are actively coming for our opportunities.

But in 2023, Stack Overflow’s survey, published on June 13, stripped out questions about gender and race.
