China may possibly be able to stave off the worse case scenario if it can attract high-value immigrants - and fertile young women - from other countries. More than a few Chinese men have Pakistani and Vietnamese wives. And more than a few Chinese settlers are laying down roots in the African continent.

The constant-threats-to-defederate thing is going to kill this place, seriously.

Defederating an instance is an extreme measure and it should only be taken in extreme circumstances.

Finding out I might stop getting posts from people I explicitly follow because they happen to be on an instance being defederated by mine all because a bunch of admins I don't know got in a spat over a user I don't follow is just about the most annoying value proposition imaginable.

I’m not sure I understand the distinction.

I’m able to read and retoot content on the normie fediverse, even post replies, which will be seen on my instance and on some of the other discussion partners. If I’m third down the line, the second person will see my reply if their instance is permissive, even if the OG can’t see it.

The OG might get a spidey sense that he ought to check the activity on #2’s instance, and that he’s missing out on the banter
