Experimental bookbinding

There was talk on discord about styling books based on corsetry and I immediately thought, "but what if it's not just aesthetic? what if it's functional?"

In this sketchbook, the sections are sewn individually, pamphlet style. The lacing is the only thing holding everything together. #HydeMakesBooks #bookbinding

I received a book! This was from Renegade Bindery's Tiny Book Bang, a collaborative miniature book exchange. I did the typesetting, and @kulapti bound it in an absolutely gorgeous red cloth binding.

The fic is Fahye's wangxian Gawain and the Green Knight au (https://archiveofourown.org/works/23277532), and I modeled the typesetting after William Morris and the Kelmscott Press.

Opening spread. Both pages have a frame of leaves and vines, the right has the title "Rare the Man Who'll Hold to Faith" in large white letters on black, and the right has the title in smaller red letters above the opening lines of the fic. The first letter is an large embellished T.
An interior page. Some line breaks have been replaced by a leaf symbol (help I almost called it an emoji) and others have fancy initials to start a new paragraph. The left page has a leafy ornament around the bottom outside corner, and the right page has a short subject header in red ink at the top of the outer margin.

Book post! This is "Salvage" by MuffinLance. The typeset file was shared by someone in the bookbinding discord, so I just focused on the cover. #bookbinding #HydeMakesBooks

The endpages of the book are gray construction paper with a gold foil pattern of ocean waves.
The headband of the book is wrapped mainly in gray thread, with five thread "beads" in red, blue, red, gold, blue. The edges of the pages are sprinkled with teal paint.
The book is spread open showing the complete cover design. The back cover mirrors the front except it has the lower part of the ocean wave rather than the crashing peak.

[original story 1/8]

The captain of the king’s guard wakes up with strange lights and a voice inside his head. The voice explains that it’s something called the facilitating AI of a transmigration game (whatever that is), but most people in the captain’s position would call it “System.”

The captain, you see, saw something he shouldn’t have (here he finds he has no memory of this) and was marked as an immediate host for transmigration. “But you’re my favorite character,” System tells him. “I had to do the install, but I destroyed the incoming data. I didn’t want to replace you.”

“Some of the early dungeon explorers tried using them as messengers,” Laios explained. “But it didn’t work. They must have gone feral and formed a colony.”

“There’s not much meat on a dove,” Senshi commented, “But here’s what we can do.” It took a few hours to pluck the feathers, boil the meat, make the gravy, and finally bake everything into a pie, but when he was finished, it was the most normal meal of their journey thus far.

a) it's an AU and he wouldn't have any of the same motivations/reasons for his villainy, yet he's still the villain because the fic needed a villain, and,

b) canon stuff happened but JGY did nothing wrong because he really didn't have any choice!

I finished "Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know" and one thing I loved about it (there were many) is how it turns the "utterly devoted love interest" trope on its head. Yin Hanjiang starts out as this, and over the course of the novel grows into someone who no longer has to suppress pieces of himself for the sake of what he thinks Wenren E wants him to be.
