Someone I muted AND blocked, yet i still see him in other people's replies. How is this possible? I'm sick of seeing this person's terrible takes 😭

Are you still seeing them within your own timelines?

When you click on their profile, does it say "blocked" and "muted" on their profile?

Are you looking at the replies within your own server, i.e. without opening a new tab or window? (They may still be visible on the public website version of the threads.)

Ahh okay, it's showing it inside Tooot?

Does it happen when you use your server's website (at https://kolektiva.social) or a different app?

(I'm just trying to narrow down if this is a problem on the app or on your server. It shouldn't be happening either way, but this could help solve it.)

@tooot can you help with this situation? Someone is seeing posts from people they've blocked, and this doesn't happen on other apps.

Do you want your posts to be as easy to discover as possible? You might want to opt into the "full text search" system.

By default, posts on here are only searched by hashtag. However, if you opt into full text search, all the words in your entire posts will become searchable by other people.

People on mastodon.social, are you seeing the multicolumn ("advanced") interface by default, even if you didn't activate it?

Have had a couple of reports now of this happening, has mastodon.social made it the default by accident?

It used to be the default years ago, but since then the simpler single column interface was made the default. Multicolumn shouldn't be appearing by default.

The problem is it's the other way round this time, people are seeing multicolumn by default even when they've set it to single column.

I just had a message saying multicolumn by default would put people off using Mastodon, and they're right.

Are you logging in via a bookmark? You might want to try deleting the bookmark, logging in and setting it to multicolumn, then creating a new bookmark.

Apparently there were alterations made to the URL on Mastodon 4.2.0 in relation to multi-column mode.

I don't see on my own page, even though I have about a dozen of them listed in the settings (link). I'm using the web interface on my and . Is that feature disabled? Maybe those only shown to others who see my page but not to me? @feditips, maybe you know? (I looked for it on your site.)

They are not very prominent any more, unfortunately.

There was briefly an excellent interface where the featured hashtags were custom filters at the top of your profile timeline, so people could click on them to just see your posts that matched that tag. It was intuitive and really useful.

Unfortunately the Mastodon developers decided to abandon that and instead put the featured tags at the lower right side of the screen, where they just get confused with the trending tags.

If you go to your profile page, they will be in the bottom right corner of the page, where trending tags normally are.

Bluesky is a centralised service run by Jack Dorsey and his friends.

It has no connections to the Fediverse or anyone else, so there is no way to respond to it from elsewhere.

I'm not sure there's a way to block boosts of replies specifically. I assume you mean the Home timeline?

You can hide boosts, and you can hide replies, but as far as I know you can't narrow this down to just boosts of replies.

On your server's website, you can hide boosts or replies by clicking the slider icon in the top right corner of the Home timeline. You will still get notifications of replies that mention you, and you will still be able to see replies in threads.

I'm not sure what the current status of Chirp is, there doesn't seem to have been an update on the code since March 2023.

The developer's account is @mike I think? Maybe they have news?

For the moment you might want to try a Guppe group instead?

There's a recent video by @canadiancivil about why people should join Mastodon and the Fediverse.

It takes a VERY different approach to other vids you may have seen.

It's, um... very straight-talking with some strong language 😱 and written by someone who found Mastodon too confusing. This is possibly video's strength though, as it may reach people that others cannot.

The simpler interface is the default, it has been for years.

Are you seeing the advanced interface by default? That shouldn't be happening if that's the case.

Someone else on mastodon.social mentioned something similar, I assume there is a bug on mastodon.social?

The default on mastodon is the box is unticked. If it's ticked, then there's a bug causing it.

As far as I can tell, this has only happened on the mastodon.social server, which is used by the developers for testing experimental features. It's possible their experiments have broken something related to the box being unticked.

I've just emailed them to let them know this seems to be happening.

Do you mean when you logged in on the old account, the list wasn't working properly?

That's possibly because you can only list people you follow, and if you've transferred your follows that would affect what appears on your lists?
