Regarding the recent #Meta / #Fediverse kerfuffle, and as someone who's been using open platforms and Free Software since the early 90s, I think this is a non-issue.

#Linux was embraced by corporations way back in the early 00s, and yet here it is in 2023 as cool and as robust as ever.

Open platforms are just that, open. People and corporations will use them as they see fit. It's folly to try to control them.

#annArbor instance folks: There was a recent (months) discussion of electric lawn equipment. I'm needing a strimmer and possibly a mower that's compatible, though the trimmer is going to get most of the work as our lawn dwindles in the coming years.

Does anybody have suggestions or advice?

I want something cordless and strong, since I have an ongoing war with some Virginia Creeper and grape vines I want to win over several battles.

New Year new #Wikipedia list. Reebee Garofalo was one of the original people who put together Rock Against Racism Massachusetts but you may know him as the snare player for the Good Trouble Brass Band playing in the HONK! Festival of Activist Street Bands. He was cited in a ton of other Wikipedia articles and made that Genealogy of Pop/Rock Music chart you may have seen in an Edward Tufte book. A good guy to get to know, deserves a longer article but this is good for now

So I finally got around to watching 'Barbie' last night. It was....OK?

As with EEAAO and Oppenheimer, there was too much bloat -- it was about 30min too long.

Also, the fact that it was produced by Mattel creeped me out, along with its corporate-friendly faux "subversiveness" vibe.

The best part, however, was America Ferrera's speech that re-awakened the Barbies - that was indeed great.

Aside from that...meh, I didn't like it very much at all, actually.
