The #InteroperableEuropeAct has been adopted in the European Parliament plenary with 524 votes in favour, 18 against and 97 abstentions.
In spite of ambiguities in the wording and the exclusion of the #FreeSoftware Community from the governance of the regulation, decisions makers heard our demands.
The European Commission will have to provide information on the development of #FreeSoftware interoperable solutions, and will have to set up actions in support of these solutions.
We will closely monitor the implementation of this regulation, making sure that Free Software and its Community can effectively contribute to an interoperable Europe.
The FSFE requested the text of the agreement reached by Member States on December 20 on the EU #CyberSolidarityAct. Thanks to our Freedom of Information request the document is now accessible to everyone.
We welcome the new reference to digital sovereignty agreed upon by the European Council.
However, digital sovereignty can be fully achieved only with #FreeSoftware, which also fosters collaboration and interoperability, crucial points in the text.
We welcome that MEPs understood that an inclusive approach is fundamental. Cross-border collaboration, including civil society, and collaborative procurement of tools are key to the success of this proposal. 🧵⬇️
↪️ … At the same time, the text failed to underline how crucial #FreeSoftware is to foster such collaboration among member states and to develop resilient, sovereign, interoperable tools.
We demand that lawmakers take this position into consideration during the upcoming trialogue.
