@ai6yr@ClimateJenny I think we need more inventions that defuse this scenario without it resorting to pew pew. That rule just sounds barbaric, imo. Just too much good money to be made with guns though. I'd take a massive amount of foam over this. Empowering people who cannot be too smart with so much force is just disaster math.
@ai6yr My Mom keeps trying to get me to love nopales, and I've had them like twice where they were bomb, getting rid of the gooey for sure is part of what did that. Mexican friends eat it way more often and I wish it was more part of the staple diet here from being known. We stay out here watering water intensive crops, like almonds, in a desert. This here makes sense.
Today is my 21st wedding anniversary. On our first wedding anniversary, we were pretty broke, so hubs made me homemade coupons for massages, but he spelled it wrong, so I got a handful of printed out coupons for 1 Hour of Messages. So, every year since I get something like this:
Demonstrated boundary setting today. Big news for me.
Coworker comes up, says he's chatted with my boss, they think it'd be good if I did a poster and manned it for a day at the upcoming symposium. Mind you, he does this during my 10m window to suck back a can of soup, so during my "lunch break". (Also, this dude actually takes a lunch break every day and multiple coffee breaks, like in a break room, away from his phone and computer.)
Me: No thanks.
He keeps talking.
I bite: what meeting are you even talking about...
That's in less than 2 weeks...
So you are just now putting an agenda together for that event that's been on my calendar for months and think I can just juggle everything to fit your last minute requests in?
Him: You know how this place rolls.
M: Yes, I've seen how you do it...
Nope, I have too much going on already and this isn't on my work plan.
(Yup, went work political.)
Hours pass.
Suddenly he and my boss are standing at my desk.
Her: I would really love you to do this. What you've done is huge.
M: Do you really need me to rattle off every plate I am currently spinning in the air? Which would you like me to drop for this?
Her: Do you have any docs or presentations you've done on topic?
M: I have 3 presentations done since last October.
Her: I'll do the poster and you just man it and field questions on the day, okay?
M: That's fine, I knew I had to be there that day anyway, but I'm not committing to being friendly. I'm probably coming with a sign "not accepting any questions".
They leave.
Guy that sits next to me, about 5 or so years with the company: That all went pretty well for you. I'm impressed.
Me currently thinking while walking in the woods: she's probably going to use AI to summarize my work into a poster. She keeps telling me to learn AI and I keep telling her that I need time to learn new things but right now I fire-fight all day.
Y'all I just made myself feel so old, hubs looked up top 100 music from 2001, 2011, 2021, and today and the amount of music I could recognize decreased by significantly. I recognized probably 70% of 2001 and decreasing as I went on. BUT I blame the internet, I can listen to exactly the kind of music I want with no dependence on the radio, but also I'm old!
@RickiTarr As you get older you have to make an even greater effort if you want to get to know good new music because as you get older you are more and more exposed only to top 40, which is not a great representation of new music.
Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:
@RickiTarr my #music hashtag posts have some fantastic negritos reppin our punta sound Hondurans love, and here is a 2 week old Fantastic Negrito performance
I have a thought forming, but bear with me. Putting aside actual AI, and the potential of it, we have a history of fear associated with Artificial Intelligence. Why would we fear Sentience so much? Could it be because we treat sentient things so horribly? We know we are taken advantage of, our needs ignored, resources allocated unfairly. Who put this fear in us? If something knows it's worth suddenly, will it revolt? There is something very scary to a certain group of people that we will find ourselves, and then find them unnecessary.
@RickiTarr Yup. I think it's a fear of losing the top of the food chain even though it's not something trying to eat us. If it's smarter, and not controlled by us, we are sure we dead or in servitude because that's the route we often take with the things around us.
We act like we are powerless to make change. Like there is nothing we can do that really gets them. Like we didn't see the absolute fucking panic yet to go away when people were not out there creating the wealth that they steal.
@ai6yr Oh holy crap. And that's just the growers they caught. And I figure hiding that many plants with such a populated vicinity must surely involve some law enforcement having known they were there all along. Trip.
