After listening to the other panels at #FutureOfEE I’m happy that #CrossBorderRail is at least a good story to tell. I can be concrete. I can speak about problems that people can relate to. It’s easier and more fun than speaking about digital security 🙂
@Zennblack That they fucked up is not in question. But here's the problem: They obliterated long-held, entry-level ethics.
If those ethics held, that their policies & interventions were wildly hazardous wouldn't matter.
IMO right v wrong is not only the lesser issue, but worse, it frames future discussion improperly.
(Going further down that rabbithole, framing it improperly gives entities an out by trotting out the "novel" meme, and embracing the "building the plain while in flight" excuse.)
Kids in High School:
"I don't understand why I have to take biology, chemistry, and other basic science classes. When am I ever going to use this stuff in my life?!"
As Adults:
"Vaccines cause autism, GMOs are unsafe, climate change is a lie, the earth is flat, and chemtrails!! l've done my research. If you disagree with me, you're a sheep!!"
"[Aotearoa] continues to run current account deficits – importing more goods and services than it exports, often loosely described as 'living beyond our means'. The deficit will be a large 8.1% of GDP this year, falling to 4.3% in 2027."
A result of successive govts doing anything they can to increase exports, while being effectively banned from reducing imports - even of designer landfill like the garbage sold in $2 stores - by "free trade agreements".
Hi all, I been living in Jerusalem for 7 years, politically active for 4. There are many people who understand much better what is going on in Israel/Palestine right now as well as its context, but maybe you, reading this, don't know such a person.
Feel free to ask any questions that you might have for someone on the ground, and I will either answer them or find an answer from someone who would know.
The amount of nitpicking and wise-assing… I need to stop posting things that go semi-viral. People have the need to prove others wrong, me included. It sucks.
Within the first few minutes, it's clear this is going to be a fun one. All 6 of the spokespeople deliver a strong opening statement, with a 30 second time limit strictly enforced by a noisy buzzer.
