It looks like the jury instructions in the Trump Manhattan case will soon be available in transcript form. When they are available I plan to analyze them.

Jury instructions are key. Not everything bad or immoral is a crime. To be convicted of a crime, the prosecution has to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to prove each element of a specific crime.

Because of how complicated this charging document is (predicate crimes for predicate crimes) the jury instructions will give the roadmap.

That seems strange. What is the reasoning behind it (if any)?

wondering how many people out there are more susceptible to disinformation because they have eye problems that make them less able to read books

godzero,
@godzero@sfba.social avatar

@exchgr
I think the problem lies in the processing of data sent by the eyes. I mean, if neither of your brain cells is fully functional, you'll probably throw a lot of errors.

I've only seen it in a theater once and it was 70mm, probably stereo sound. It would be interesting to see how well it might transfer to IMAX and, if possible, AI-assisted surround sound.

Because Voyager 1 is so far from Earth, it takes almost 23 hours for a command to reach it at the speed of light, and the same for a response to reach us back, for a total of close to 50 hours.

Which means that interactions with Voyager 1, currently around 15 billion miles away, are still faster than many Microsoft Windows updates.

ahhhh thank goodness, the baratza virtuoso+ uses mostly the same parts as the original virtuoso, which i’ve owned for about a decade. so i can still replace a recently-cracked burr ring holder, and a cracked-since-day-one hopper for like $15 total instead of getting a whole new grinder for $250

godzero,
@godzero@sfba.social avatar

I should hope so at that price! I considered getting one many years ago but I don't make enough coffee at home to justify it although it would be nice to have one.

It's probably worth it if that's your main/only hot beverage. I make stovetop espresso a couple of times a week but drink tea (pu'erh) most of the time.

watching x-files and they “as you know bob”’d origami. like:

a: look at that, it’s beautiful.
b: it’s called origami.
a: yeah, japanese paper folding

was origami just largely unknown in the west in the early 90s? i can’t remember a time when i didn’t know what it was

@pluralistic on the practicalities of "Even a brief moment's serious consideration should make it clear why we wouldn't want the distracted, stoned, drunk, suicidal, homicidal maniacs who pilot their two-ton killbots through our residential streets at 75mph to be flying over our heads with a reservoir of high explosives strapped to their backs."

I read this after driving two hours on Michigan highways, and this gets a solid AMEN from me. The here is a bit unsettling.

There are so many people who can't handle driving in 2D, so 3D would be a disaster.

something i don’t understand about people who are susceptible to fake news is, wouldn’t you want to know if you’re wrong?

godzero,

@exchgr The problem with magats, et al, is that they think they know the truth and everything else can be disregarded. Therefore they can't be wrong.

Today is Ritual Roasters’s 19 anniversary. I moved to SF a few weeks prior to Ritual’s opening and spent a lot of time at their location on Valencia St (I lived a block away). Over the years I’ve made a lot of art and friends at this location too. Happy birthday, Ritual!

Me in line at Ritual Roasters. I’m wearing a grey KN95 mask, a Benders baseball cap, and a Tech Won’t Save Us hoodie in bright yellow.

why did the new sonos app introduce so many extra taps everywhere? so many “view all” or “show more” or “apply” buttons 😫

godzero,
@godzero@sfba.social avatar

@exchgr
I haven't updated it so I can't see the new navigation or lack of features but all reviews/reactions I've read are not happy. How hard would it be to keep functions that already have the code written? I've seriously gone off the idea of adding more Sonos gear to my systems due to their apparent disregard for the users.

godzero,
@godzero@sfba.social avatar

@exchgr
This is probably true (I haven't explored others) but I already have 3 separate systems (living room, bedroom, music room) and don't really need them to be unified. I was considering expanding the living room system into other areas, like dining room/kitchen and outside, but I'll find another way to do it. Also, my existing outdoor speakers are passive (because no power requirement) and work just fine from zone 2 of one of the AVRs.

is there anywhere in nyc i could go to try out a boox device? i’m intrigued by these things (and suddenly seeing them everywhere for some reason) but not enough to just order one sight unseen

godzero,
@godzero@sfba.social avatar

@exchgr
I will NOT buy a Kindle thing, an iPad is overkill for just reading, Android tablets are not very good, so the boox looks enticing. Maybe I'll just order one and return it if I'm not satisfied.

godzero,
@godzero@sfba.social avatar

@exchgr
I had an iPad at my last job and it was great, especially for remote access to network management, Salesforce, my code library, etc. But I don't really have a need for one right now whereas I do for a reading device. However, I will reconsider getting an iPad if the boox doesn't work out. I also need to update my 12yo MacBook Pro and 13yo iMac although they both work ok. The problem with the iMac is they don't make a 27" anymore and I won't go down to a 24".
