Hey @itsfoss - This you?
What a difference a year makes, huh?

Bit weird. Maybe have a lie down.

Also It's FOSS, sorry, IT'S FOSS, GETTING IRRATIONALLY ANGRY ABOUT THE SAME SOFTWARE.

@popey @itsfoss

I've never had an issue with apt not handling dependencies?

is true it does one thing well, there's no need for 'something else' or did I miss something in the last 30 years?

Especially whingy dog owners complaining about fireworks scaring their pack animal while they let the little ^&*! sit in the garden barking all day taking no action.

Fediverse! I’ve been building a bridge to Bluesky, and they’re turning on federation soon, which means my bridge will be available soon too. You’ll be able to follow people on Bluesky from here in the fediverse, and vice versa.

Bluesky is a broad network with lots of worthwhile people and conversations! I hope you’ll give it a chance. Only fully public content is bridged, not followers-only or otherwise private posts or profiles. Still, if you want to opt out, I understand. Feel free to DM me at @snarfed (different account than this one), email me, file a GitHub issue, or put #nobridge in your profile bio.

A number of us have thought about this for a while now, we’re committed to making it work well for everyone, and we’re very open to feedback. Thanks for listening. Feel free to share broadly.

You have this totally the wrong way round and are not respecting user privacy. If you're making big changes like this the default should be opted out, not opted in with a choice to opt out.
Don't be a dick like Facebook et.al do the right thing from the start.

Also we Europeans have stronger data protection laws and I suspect you're breaking them.

It will be a few days before we get official confirmation from the National Grid, but I’m calling it now: 2023 was the year renewables overtook fossil fuels as the largest contributor to British electricity generation. In the 12 years I’ve been running National Grid: Live at https://grid.iamkate.com electricity generation from fossil fuels has fallen from an average of 25.1GW to 10.2GW, while renewables have risen from 2.5GW to 10.8GW.

Figures for 2023: Demand 29.6GW Fossil fuels 10.2GW Renewables 10.8GW Other sources 5.9GW Transfers 2.7GW

@kate but still consumers gwt ripped off playing a premium based on fossil fuel provided energy costs.

The story of Wayland:

  1. No one wanted to maintain X11 because it sucked
  2. We made Wayland and it's much better
  3. A vocal minority of change-averse people complained with little to no factual basis
  4. They were asked to muster some labor to maintain X11
  5. None of them did
  6. All of the people who actually do get work done eventually stopped listening to them and moved on with Wayland

@drewdevault
2. Not true. It just sucks less for now

I am having some updating issues with one of my machines. Does anyone know what is the issue?

The log file (bottom terminal) does not show anything, and the pacman itself just complains that JRE and JRE headless are in conflict. I have JRE but not the headless, and I don't know for which package pacman wants to install JRE headless.

Any ideas/suggestions are highly appreciated.

gregsie,

@Mehrad Yes. I saw this a few weeks ago. This article explains the solution.

More random Sun hardware for ’s for . This time it’s a Sun Ultra Enterprise 450.

Maybe not as fancy as the Sun Microsystems Sun Blade 2500 I posted before but it’s a box. Who can resist a box?!

It even has wheels! You can sit on it and have your work buddy push you around like you’re driving a car 😛
