On my way back from the shop I stopped to say hello to one of my favourite neighbourhood cats. My husband and I refer to him as the little grey cat. Anyway, a lady today told me that he’s called Gatsby!

@purplepadma I really hate birthdays (mine that is), I get very maudlin and grumpy, telling everyone who cares (or doesn’t) that it’s my birthday and I can be sad and grumpy if I want to (stamps foot). My 50th is next year 🙈.

Reminds me, I have a question for enthusiasts.

Do collared doves nest in chimney pots? It's just I've been trying to figure out where the collared dove couple must be nesting as there isn't a suitable tree in the right kind of location.

@RolloTreadway do you have any conifers around your way? Everything seems to nest in ours and neighbours leylandii. Horrible stuff but the birds seem to like it. We’ve had collared doves and wood pigeons in there. If not, ledges etc on buildings maybe.

@RolloTreadway they have chosen you 😊. Must be a flat enough area on a roof or ledge nearby. They build quite loose twiggy nests like other pigeons I think. Such gentle birds.

@RolloTreadway I can’t help cooing to them (in Reeves and Mortimer fashion). We’ve recently started seeing a pair of stock doves in the garden, which I’d not known were a thing. Similar to wood pigeons, of which we always seem to have three. Collared doves are the sweetest though.

A short (1:00 minute) video taken on a mobile phone showing a view through treetops out across a wooded river valley to hills beyond - pasture and woodland, a conifer plantation on the far right. The deciduous trees are leafing up nicely, a bright green hue. The sky is pale blue with a few light clouds. The only sound is birdsong - the song thrush the lead singer with backing vocals provided by willow warblers, chiffchaff, wren, blackbird, robin, bluetit and a faint chaffinch. There’s also a very faint rush of water far below.

There should be a special baked treat for every month in the year. Why isn't there? Why am I not enjoying a delicious April Cake or Spring Bun or whatever?

OK, so thanks for all the kindness and well wishes yesterday, I slept a lot better by the power of pharma after a combination of dark room, ambient music, sleepy pillow spray and attempts at letting my thoughts drift by.

I’m a bit agitated this morning, nervous? Excited? Anxious? Mixed mood? Can’t tell but I need to be careful today. I’ll try to run some of the agitation off, it’s a run day anyway. Wish me luck managing myself
