Been on this planet for a bit now; still trying to figure it out.

What keeps me informed, amused, or up at night: climate and the environment, news, media and journalism, human evolution and ancient history, politics, wildlife, photography, cycling, piano, guitar, español, français. Oh, and a sucker for bad puns.

"Donkey Kong isn't even a donkey" is a position rooted in ignorance and historical mistranslation, one need only reflect briefly on his mixed Japanese, Italian and Kong heritage to recognize the significance of "qi", the life energy of Eastern tradition, preposed by the Italian "Don" honorific, together constituting a term of great respect and admiration within the greater Kong clan for a powerful figure of enormous vitality, a tremendous "boss energy" if you would, in this essay I will

Monitoring the front porch to see if Mrs Robin builds her nest on it again, like she did last year.

Three blue robin’s eggs in the nest.
The three hatchlings in the nest, orange beaks wide open, awaiting their next meal.

Happy Earth Day!
Suppose each of us, like on New Year’s Day, were to make a personal resolution to do something significant, something beneficial—a change in lifestyle perhaps?—to help this awesome home of ours remain vibrant, nourishing, livable. You in?

jd,

@dbc3
Yes, disheartening, given the mammoth challenge. We need to cut emmissions by 30% to stay below 2C warming; 45% to stay under 1.5C. All by 2030. A task made difficult—impossible one could say—by the powerful forces hell bent on extracting every last drop of profit.
So agreed: radical, systemic change is required to stop the madness.
In the end, there’s nobody here but us chickens. And that 45% reduction lands on each of us: governments, corporations, extractors, you, me.

jd,

@Jgmeadows @dbc3
From what I gather, it is among climate scientists that this sense of doom and frustration is greatest, for they know more than most of us what’s coming down the pipeline.
