I do things. I am a macOS, Slackware, classic gaming enjoyer. I also tend to gravitate toward ARM things. Friends call me loco, internet calls me r0ni. But really I’m Jay and I’m 100% “loco” ;)

I finally pushed a new ISO today! A LOT has changed since the last one a month ago. @nwgpiotr has added a webkitgtk-based inline doc reader which also can read everything in /usr/doc, everything nwg-* has had updates, and I’ve even put sway v1.9-rc3 on the iso as my testing says it’s nice and stable. Enjoy! https://rekt.lngn.net/nwg/

If I wanted to re-live an alternate childhood and experience the SNES/TurboGrafx/Neo Geo classics, on the couch, which way should I go? Analogue Pocket or Steam Deck OLED?

I like the idea of FPGA emulation but that screen looks so tiny…

jloc0,

@paul get a MiSTer it’s better than the analogue, cheaper, open source, and can be almost whatever you want it to be.

About a month into my daily-driving Linux experience and I gotta say I’m quite happy. I have made a few changes with my setup that have made it a really good fit for my needs.

@ernie Ernie! I’ve missed social interaction with you since I dropped Twitter. Nice to find you here ;) also nice to see you’re using Linux, it’s my secret happy place. lol

jloc0,

@ernie aren’t we all? ;) what Linux distro have you fallen for? I’ve always been a Slackware guy, but dabble in CRUX as well (when I’m not using a Mac anyway).

was Red Hat. A week long download on 56k ISO mind you. The amount of fuckery that held that distro together almost turned me off Linux. Gave Mandrake a try eventually, though it felt just like Red Hat, it was slightly better. Found a special thing when I tried out ZipSlack. ZipSlack gave me the courage to go full-on Slackware and I loved it, and have used Slackware ever since. Once you go Slack you never go back.

@joy had I had access to the retail disk, I’d of bought it instead possibly. I can’t say part of the allure was that it felt like I was pirating an epically large game, but the reward was just disappointment in the end. 🤣

I've put online my QT6 build AND I've started a little temporary repo for . Since it's currently having major lag from the x86 Slackware, and there's been a ton of security updates the past week, I've built ALL the updates so users can be as secure as their Intel brethren. Leech the packages or add to slackpkg+ and let it do the talking here: https://slackware.lngn.net/pub/aarch64/slkupdiff/
QT6-6.6.1 is sitting all alone in https://slackware.lngn.net/pub/aarch64/

Finally made a repo for my personal website and blog. 😎
(Should have done that from the start 😂 )

Made with and the awesome theme 🙂

Well, if anyone wants to see the code, here it is:

@jhx started to redo my site with Hugo a year ago…. Never made it live. Literally deleted Wordpress, put old outdated html in its place… still keep meaning to finish my Hugo setup someday… 🤭

I’ve found a glibc/gettext bug on , I noticed last week or so on arm64 port, which now happened on x86 today to me. But diagnosing the issue is going to be a pain point, cuz who tf wants to mess with glibc? Anyway, now I’m messing with glibc. I’ll break all the things.

Also in my spare time I’ve been prepping a document for installing Slackware-ARM on VMware-Fusion in an Apple Silicon machine. Because it seems people still haven’t figured it out. Basically in the note taking stage while I install/reinstall and do things over and over. FUN, fun.

Laptop - #slackware #slackware-current #crux

Intel desktop - #crux

MacMini -#macos #debian-asahi

RPI5 - #slackwarearm #sarpi #crux-arm

And multiple VMs on macOS. #fedora #debian #crux-arm #slackwarearm

I want to do some meta packages for people who don’t want to use my pre-builds to make desktop installls easier. And I plan to add lxqt and more software until I reach a point of not being able to keep track of it all. 😂 But just enough stuff to have a decent repo for -current available. I don’t plan to ever have all that SBo has, just a curated set of things I feel should be available to slackers who choose to live on the edge.

Alright, I’ll do something productive since I took the day off work. Building libreoffice 7.6.3.2 for #slackware #aarch64 and I’ll push the updates I’m sitting on for #nwgshell once I check and ensure I didn’t break any packages.

Help little old me decide 😀

jloc0,

@jhx I use Debian on a server (don’t tell anyone) but truth be told, it’s just too boring for my local hardware. I know it’s losing, but 100% Slackware here.

Sudo has been updated for all versions of Slackware between 14.0 and 15. Could be a good idea to run 'slackpkg update' ...

I feel like Mastodon has turned into a more aggressive and less friendly place than Twitter was at its worst

It may be b/c the federation makes people feel entitled to say anything without fear of local moderation? I don’t know

How has your experience been?

jloc0,
@jloc0@mastodon.social avatar

@benjedwards since I’ve joined (almost a year since I left Twitter before I decided I’d join) and it just feels like ppl bitching about Twitter mostly. Twitter died to me when I left it, it’s like constantly hearing about your ex in mastodon. It’s so very tiring.

Do you guys use #Flatpak on your #Linux system? 🙂
Currently, I do not need external software - everything I need is in the repo or available in a external repo (#Debian)
Curious to know how your experiences are with #Flatpaks (Or #AppImages for that matter)

jloc0,
@jloc0@mastodon.social avatar

@jhx I use flatpaks on to determine if software is worth actually packaging natively. That said, at this point, every flatpak I use normally is either available as a .deb or I’ve packaged it up already. They are nice when you’re trying to avoid making a mess of installed packages though.

Well, looks like Reddit pulled the plug a little early. Apollo started crashing, but I just manually revoked my token and it looks like it fixes the crashing, but no more Reddit access haha. Those folks are fun to the very end! 😛

I just released a really important Apollo update that adds the ability for users with remaining subscription time left to decline an automatic refund. Devs pay refunds out of pocket, and this will be about $250K, so I thank you for your consideration. ❤️

Also, this update includes an amazing "Goodbye Apollo Wallpaper Set” for your phone, tablet, or desktop, created by outrageously talented Apollo icon designers. You can unlock the pack with a donation that helps with refund costs. 🙂

jloc0,
@jloc0@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig mines been telling me this for weeks now. I have ultra+ pro lifetime (whatever it’s called) how can I get it to deny a refund, if I can’t even get it to acknowledge anything?

Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/

jloc0,
@jloc0@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig I really enjoyed being a part of the Apollo community and doing what I can to support you as a individual app developer. Apollo changed my reddit experience for the better. Like others, I’ll be leaving reddit as well. Corporations need to earn to succeed, I get that, but the greed to snuff out the little guy will be their undoing. Thanks for making an app that wasted so so so so much of my time. 🤣 Good luck out there!
