How does a medical aid like discovery with 1.3million members still charge so much? The next biggest provider is bonitas at 700k and then it drops to momentum at 153k members... you would think the scale benefits discovery especially when average age is 33. Feels like they could charge less for better cover.

I love the concept of apps like Briar ( @briarapp / @briar ), Meshenger and FireChat (discontinued). The idea of being independant of a cellular network for me feels like something everyone should get behind. Its a real pitty they are not mainstream enough to get adoption. I guess we need a twitter/reddit fiasco in the chatapp world (or a network failure) to force a new adoption

For all the reasons you mention.
But as of right now, I don't have a use for it, because nobody I care about is on there.

Also the requirement to periodically enter a password is very annoying. I kinda get why..but still.

Since you might be, like me, unsure what people mean when they talk about "metas" online (since it doesn't seem to match the definition of "meta" that I know), I finally looked it up.

Turns out it's an acronym for "most effective tactic available" and comes from the world of MMO games.

It shouldn’t be an issue that some admins are taking a strong, pre-emptive stance to whilst others play a waiting game.

The great thing about the Fediverse is that we can decide to move and join an instance that aligns with our own position and values. We should celebrate this flexibility.

The one thing that will serve ’s interest is if we
instead divided ourselves to wage a destructive war of words over its plans.

It would be great if we could avoid that.

John Brown & Unions are the keys to busting the MAGA fascist bubble. They're not magic, but these are the themes that we can sell to Americans about a better America that their ancestors lived and died for.

John Brown was a fundamentalist Calvinist, who lived and died for equality. He is a key example of progressive Christians who would be called Social Justice Warriors by the Right.

Unions (& the New Deal) were THE key for bringing Americans out of the Great Depression.
