Here is a very basic tool for a power analysis. In ANY situation, the person or people with the least access to resources (financial/social/emotional/physical) and most prone to risk (physical, financial/social/emotional) are the most vulnerable.

I am proud and excited to announce the launch of the Brava Leadership Institute. We will be putting a cohort of 20 leaders of multiracial/multicultural institutions to do a year-long cohort focused on both the skills needed to manage the unique sets of challenges and opportunities presented by multiracial/multicultural institutions AND the community needed to whether what promises to be a challenging year for leaders across the country.

The Senate held its first Long Covid hearing today. I cannot tell you how many people - how many hearts and brains - went into securing this hearing, ensuring Senators showed up for it, got everyone organized around it, submitted letters to go into the congressional record, made everything from t-shirts to housing to a to robust patient presence possible. I stay believing that community is all we got. ❤️❤️

It pains me how much is happening in our bodies and how LITTLE curiosity the average doctor has about it.

Muscle weakness, plaque in your tissue, energy being compromised at the cellular level, lack of dna repair, hard time turning body processes off and on, mitochondria struggling so hard it sets off an immune system attack. But sure, we are just being lazy.

This week, Covid added lupus to the many health issues it’s given me. Please mask up. For your own sake. For your community. Please think through your holiday plans. At the latest reporting I saw, 1 in 57 people has Covid right now according to sewage waste water numbers. I would do anything to have known to mask in March of 2020. And you know! You’re so lucky! Be lucky!

When folks puzzle about young people being so pro-Palestine I always point out in 2014 a study said 75% of white people had all white social networks, in 2022 it was 67%. So folks would be tempted to say “Progress!!” But in the meantime Gen Z is 48% poc.

Among white folks 18-29, only 54% report all white social networks. White evangelicals and Catholics are the most segregated at 71% and 73% having all white social networks.

Meanwhile, 62% non-Christians and 57% non-religiously affiliated white folks have all white social groups.

You have a tangibly different life when you live in a multicultural/multiracial society. Your ability to understand a world view outside of your own is massively different.

There is a vast separation in the lives of white people based off age and geography right now, and the “elite” white folks puzzling about how a younger generation thinks differently than they do has roots in demographic shift.

We have yet to create the systems, norms, social and economic contracts needed for true multiracial multicultural society. We are using the tools homogeneity handed us. That will never work. Ever. So the experience of Black, Indigenous, Asian, and/or Latiné people is still deeply painful and pushes those groups out of high wage work, mid-wage institutions and community groups.

My Abuelas as the roots, the color, my little pollinator. Every detail a reminder of who I wanna be and remember.

Yellow daffodil with roots that say Lupe, Mirtala, Eliza. To the right of the flower - a small bumble bee.

Black patients are 36% less likely to get a Paxlovid prescription. Latiné patients are 30% less likely to get a Paxlovid prescription. Keep pushing for the care you need for you and your loved ones.:

Today is Latina equal pay day. May our invisibility, erasure, and submission to help others stop being the conditions demanded to allow our leadership. 52 cents for every $1 earned by White men is the beginning of painful stories that should be reported on, understood, and fought. May we stop being defanged as a condition of our existence.

We are ill-prepared for what is coming but we don’t have to be. If 11 people can get a bajillion books banned, we can call and protest our cities/states and demand they prepare. We can also demand climate action. Letting ourselves be seduced by despair is counterproductive to building the world we want.

CW: assault

Y’all, the pain of being assaulted while other folks watch and do nothing is the toughest pain I have worked through in my life. I don’t know Roda but I gave because we are all deserving of community showing up with care and resources when we need them. Please give. Even 5 bucks is one more person fighting the violation she experienced.

We could have fought for ventilation, masking, sick leave, trauma leave, universal healthcare including mental health, a national network of well-paid community healthcare workers to provide education and fight misinformation, and care work subsidization. Instead the left as much as the right fought to get back to no masks and no precautions.

karlaliliana,
@karlaliliana@mastodon.social avatar

The above would have revolutionized our ability to care for our communities during climate collapse. We chose not to fight for that.

karlaliliana,

Folks of all races and ethnicities keep leaning into the American (read: whiteness) trauma response of disassociate, deny, minimize, react.

karlaliliana,
@karlaliliana@mastodon.social avatar

@etherdiver I do a lot of organizing on the left and I’m immunocompromised. Forget doing actions for these things. Most people refuse to mask and get incredibly angry when asked to test. This is the fault of everyone.
