I spent all of this morning doing something long, long overdue.
Google Drive > Takeout > Delete
Google Photos > Takeout > Delete
Google One Subscription: Removed

And all that data is on its way to a much better steward: @nextcloud

Feels good.

tio,

@nextcloud @killyourfm Great. And by the way for whoever cannot setup their own Nextcloud instance we provide up to 20GB free storage via files.trom.tf - with the default Photo gallery app installed. I know is not much but you can attach an external storage to it for very cheap and have all of your photos and videos in Nextcloud. Just saying. There is no catch we provide trade-free services for several years now.

@tio @nextcloud Considering Google gives you 15GB for free (which you pay for with your privacy and data) and you provide 20GB, I would honestly say it’s pretty generous.

[1] During the past two months, I’ve done a TON of gardening research. And I can’t escape the feeling that dozens of the sites that populate the first page of results (I use DDG, not Google) aren’t exactly maintained by humans.

Suspiciously similar “Master Gardener” profiles + site layouts, random bizarre advice mixed in w/ perfectly sensible advice + phrases that don’t seem to belong. I can’t give you any solid proof, but I’m having a difficult time trusting the written web word lately.

@killyourfm I often search YouTube for answers because it’s far more likely the video is made by a human with real information.

In the entire history of computing, there has never been a more important time to teach people about than right now.

(And never a worse time for me not to be doing @Linux4Everyone -- so I hope my fellow YouTube and content creators will double down and show people the light!)

@killyourfm @Linux4Everyone @kevinctofel All the teaching in the world can’t make the average person understand Linux. If you don’t want Recall come to macOS, there’s a store nearby where they’ll answer all your questions 🙂

@PenguinToot @Linux4Everyone @kevinctofel macOS is certainly a good alternative to Windows, but I have to disagree with you. Many Linux distributions have made dramatic improvements towards usability and intuitive UI. (Many have not). Of course, neither of us can speak for every “average person” on the planet, but I know non-technical people from pre-teens all the way to elderly folk who use and understand Linux just fine.

I just spotted this little praying mantis hanging out in my basil plant… which has never been outside.

Don’t know how it got inside, but I introduced it to the garden. It will undoubtedly have a lot more fun out there!

Garden update: Blossom Edition!

Every day I’m waking up to new life in the garden and I’m constantly amazed at the rapid growth out there.

Pictured here: Purple Emperor Nasturtium, Yukon Gold potato, Red Pride tomato, and Hearts of Gold cantaloupe.

YESSSSS! It’s been a frustrating Monday, but things just got a little brighter. Long live physical media!

@killyourfm as primarily a PC gamer, I get so jealous of the collectors editions of games for consoles and stuff.

Like I want swag sometimes too!

killyourfm,
@killyourfm@layer8.space avatar

@dlove67 that’s certainly a valid thing to be jealous about. I think the last truly awesome collectors edition game I bought on PC was Fallout 4. They’re so rare these days.

Dear ice cream trucks: why do you play songs like “Silent Night” and “When the Saints Go Marching In?”

FlyingBlindUS,

@killyourfm Lol! Ok, silent night now? No, but I would not mind a little happy tune such as Oh when the saints go marching in. Ours play do yrou ears hang low with that one note in the left hand as a pedal tone. or the homophonic verson or what not.

This sunflower is NOT messing around. Only 7 weeks ago, this was a seed in the ground. Today it's 5 feet 4 inches tall! (~164cm for my European friends)

thrillcat,
@thrillcat@mstdn.social avatar

@killyourfm it was only a couple feet tall but it was growing in the gutter. 😂 Bird must’ve dropped a seed up there and it took root in all the gunk and leaves.

killyourfm,
@killyourfm@layer8.space avatar

@thrillcat HAHA! That’s amazing.
