Seeing this, it just struck me that SAFe is probably the last method you’d want to use for building safety critical software.

(I’m happy to be corrected though)

@slothrop you had me at last method.

My last job was with a megaCorp that used agile sort of ok with some of the dev teams. The suits spent years crafting a SAFe approach. It was finally publicly released as version 4.0. it didn't pass the giggle test, even with its creators and was roundly ignored.

Sadly, I wasn't able to fix all of the flaws (a tendency to explode being the primary one) in my robot, "Footloose", so we won't be competing. However, I'm here at UIUC to cheer on my son Justin and my bouncing 1-lb grand-bot, "Singularity," (pictures below) as well as his team's 30 lb bot "Collosal Avian." The tournament is livestreamed ("Live" link at the "Robobrawl UIUC" YouTube channel) if you want to check it out.

@geekmomprojects Bummer you won't be able to compete. It was fun last year following your "completely out of my element" posts. Best of luck to your son and "grandbot"

    I beg of you please to take just a minute to watch the wider context of that “bloodbath” quote. He’s talking about trade and tariffs. Don’t just uncritically freak out over media that was made to manipulate you into freaking out, even if, especially if, it was done by your “side”. It makes you look like a rube.

    lePetomaneAncien,
    @lePetomaneAncien@fosstodon.org avatar

    @ratkins I think there is freaking out and then there is hearing the dog whistle not blown for you. I think Trump no longer knows when he's blowing the dog whistle. No matter the context for what he says, he habitually says it in the most inflammatory way possible.

    Sadly, the man has no substance. All we do is respond to his style. We need more people willing to say that this would-be emperor has no clothes.

    "Do you know why I pulled you over?" will be illegal in California from January 1, 2024. Now police have to tell you why they pulled you over.

    The idea is to stop pre-textual traffic stops, in which an officer pulls over a driver, usually Latino or African-American, intending to find a reason to search their vehicle for contraband.

    Research shows that pre-textual traffic stops are a racist practice that nets very little contraband. #acab

    We also have a "programming" club and I was asked to be the advisor. The students mostly run the club themselves doing competitions and other projects. Recently we did a survey and many students in the club (who tend to have less programming experience) want to "learn how to make a web page"

    I'm a little flummoxed by this. And that might seem odd given I used to make web pages for a living. But, the landscape now is so confusing.

    Maybe teach them wordpress?
    Any thoughts?

    lePetomaneAncien,
    @lePetomaneAncien@fosstodon.org avatar

    @slothrop @futurebird I like the notion of separate business and technical tracks for this. One group states the requirements, a second group implements them. Somewhere in the Venn diagram a third group refines and interprets the requirements so they actually can be implemented.

    Full disclosure, I worked in that third group for much of my career. It was often, but not always, a rewarding experience.

    @slothrop Of course I have. When I lived in the rural south hunting squirrels with a .22 rifle, aka squirrel gun, was a favorite pastime. Unfortunately the People's Republic of Minnesota has restraints on certain exercises of one's 2A rights. I am, however, considering other less-than-lethal active counter measures. .
