These kinds of signs are enormous cries for help. The whole “publicly stating values of basic human decency” suggests one of the following:

• an attempt to one-up anyone who visits,
• an attempt to gain another dimension for an otherwise one-dimensional personality,
• a belief that said decency exists in a very unstable place.

I had a good chat with a colleague at work who I look up to. Confided in him about the rodent issue, and he assured me that in every house he’s ever had, there has always been one annoying thing (mice, electrics, boilers, random damp patches…). Even though we’ve rented up ‘til this point, the same has occurred for us: leaks from upstairs neighbours, intolerable ambient noise, dodgy plumbing, holes in the floor(!)…

If I had more time on my hands to do linguistic research, I’d really want to understand why British English users have such a difficult time using apostrophes for marking plurals and possessives, and instances of error/hypercorrection like in this photo I took from a local shop earlier this week.

(I’ve only edited out the place name rather than anything else. Not planning on doxxing myself today or any other day :neofox_peek: )
