This SUNDAY on Twitch at 2 PM EST (11 AM PST) I will be continuing my stream of "Cocoon", an extremely clever new Annapurna-umbrella puzzle game with some seriously strange verbs. I'm about halfway through, and they've pretty much introduced the concepts at this point, so I'm hoping the actually hard puzzles are coming up. If not, at least it's really pretty? Anyway watch at: https://twitch.tv/mcc111

luneellise21,

@mcc ooooh interesting! Gorogoa is still one of my Top 5 fave games. Is it like that?

If you enable all the ad-blockers in Vivaldi Browser and visit YouTube...

... YouTube will now claim you are offline.

This is the future of all Chromium-based web browsers.

If you are using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, or Vivaldi, you're using a Chromium-type browser.

Google develops and owns the source code to Chromium. It is what they use to build Google Chrome. Google also own YouTube. -- The fix is in.

The solution? Firefox.

Wow. Jag Bhalla offers one of the most sensible, thought-provoking, and wholly convincing articles I have ever read.

Title: "Climate Optimism Is Dangerous and Irrational"

Subtitle: "Overly-confident math models based on unrealistic assumptions are used to avoid crisis-consistent climate policies and to protect global elite privilege, while abandoning our duties to the planet’s most vulnerable."

It includes these section headings:

‣ The IPCC’s Official Modeling Malarkey

‣ The Worst Offenders: The Economists

I hope you can take the time to read the entire article. It's very long, extremely well-researched, and completely devastating.

This is near the conclusion...

Climate change is not just going to be “apocalyptic,” it’s already apocalyptic.

It’s just that the apocalypse is not something that happens to the entire world at once. Instead, the apocalyptic events are experienced mostly by the world’s poorest people (who, incidentally, have contributed the least to creating the problem). Who, witnessing the scale of flooding in Pakistan last year, could possibly say that the climate crisis is not “apocalyptic,” unless you regard Pakistanis as unpeople whose well-being simply doesn’t factor into the equation? 33 million people were displaced, and millions of homes destroyed.

When white Western elites publish books with titles like "It’s Not The End of The World" or "Apocalypse Never" or "False Alarm", what they mean is “it’s not the end of the world for people like me,” “apocalyptic conditions will never be experienced by my sector of society,” and “those of us who are among the world’s richest do not need to be alarmed.”

Of course, even these are false comforts — the mansions of Malibu are flammable, after all.

luneellise21,

@breadandcircuses I agree. It always baffles me whenever I read the IPCC reports with their emission scenarios. In what world would a Net-Zero scenario happen? What did countries and multinational industries do that IPCC can still believe those scenarios are even possible??

“DeSantis currently has a net approval rating of negative 19 points….with 55 percent of respondents disapproving of him, compared with 36 percent who have a favorable view….”

People know evil when they see it.

Poor guy.

luneellise21,

@georgetakei if only that was the reason. I think he just has no rizz that's why people don't like him.

since nobody actually knows why Tucker was fired from Fox, I'll just point out that he seemed to think he was still hired on his last show on Friday, so it was probably something emergent and extremely damaging in an urgent way

Asking for ideas to officially identify as in ...

Hello, I'm a resident in Germany for 3 years now. Is there a way for me to officially be identified as non-binary here e.g. my residence card would say I am non-binary (or "Divers" as some German websites use)? My Deutsch is very limited, but I would try to work it out as best as I can. So I would like to ask for ideas on where to start?
