@lydiaconwell@mas.to

Writer or artist or something. Probably nothing. - London.

If you want to know the main theme of this account ... I generally like to critique things. I usually critique art, books, TV, Movies, etc. And quite often I'm interested story structure and logic. I guess that's my USP or something.

I post either on the Fediverse or on my #PsychicDrool blog.

I love avant-garde stuff, love noisy music. I'm currently into John Coltrane. Got shit I've written on Smashwords.

Me is listening to this

Ramones - Live At The Rainbow - December 31, 1977

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=Sp3zaeOyL7Q&listen=false

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

I once saw a (pretty crappy) band called Guttermouth at some festival and their USP was the lead singer would troll the audience at the beginning of every bland pop rock song.

And one of his remarks was "Nice biker jacket, you must be from England" -- I guess the whole biker jacket thing was more common in Britain than the US.

But then ... The Ramones wear biker jackets

Maybe it was Joey in the audience ...

Also, the Ramones live sound pretty much like their recorded versions -- just a bit better.

I saw a post about recently. I can't remember what it was though.

Babes In Toyland - Bruise Violet

I mean, is this song about Courtney Love or what?

lydiaconwell, to music
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

I know this song is about football ...

But I do love the lyrics ...

"Open up your purses for the boys who reimburse us ..."

Pavement - Feed Them to the (Linden) Lions
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=0pPlos2i7Ys

I think maybe the use of the word 'Purses' is borrowed from Beefheart here ...

"Men let your wallets flop out, and women open your purses"

Woke up to find the kitchen flooded. Seems the leaky tap has found a new path to ground, bypassing the pipes. Yay. That’s changed Sunday somewhat.

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@mxtthxw Have you turned the stopcock?

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@mxtthxw A washing bowl will do it.

Are you going to fix it yourself? I think taps are straight forward, aren't they? idk

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@mxtthxw Yeah, sometimes a professional will do a better job and will have all the tools and parts. More expensive but faster.

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@mxtthxw Are you going to Swizerland to check on your low tax bank account?

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@mxtthxw I see. That's how the tap became leaky in the first place!

@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

Yeah the Ribbon of Memes dudes are talking about the ...

And ... I've only seen each of them about twice I think.

But they're the sort of movie that you watch, enjoy, but most people don't care to see again, I think.

Like Forrest Gump. I've seen that a couple of times and don't care to watch it ever again.

lydiaconwell, to movies
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

Hey! It turns out I have seen that Moon ...

But my brain decided to destroy all evidence of my viewing as soon as it happened so I'd entirely forgotten all about it.

I kinda remember the scary twist part ... You know, the point of the movie part ... but I don't remember how it ends.

It's just a guy living with an emoji-bot

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@josemanuel I can't quite remember ... But I think I thought it was a bit obvious. Like I knew what it was going to do.

I think it was OK though. But I didn't love it for sure.

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@josemanuel Yes, knowing what happens isn't a problem when the films good -- that's why you watch films again.

Also the language of cinema often 'tells' you what's going to happen, like you're supposed to guess. Or whether you guess or not, it doesn't matter.

The bad movies in my opinion are the M Night Shyamalan types where the twist is the point and once you know, why would you want to see it again?

Of course, it is highly likely though that you will prove that we are correct.

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@pootriarch I see. People would take them to the shows.

Possibly it was from fanzines and reports in magazines/newspapers. I think that's how people communicated in the olden days.

Now we have super fast technology so that ideas are passed around so quickly, nobody bothers to act upon them. They just make a reaction video to it.

lydiaconwell, to books
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

Most in seem to either lean to or revert entirely to standard US spelling ...

But I would have thought folk in the US would like a little bit of standard British English on occasion.

Make them feel a little closer to Hobbiton or something.

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@Virginicus I saw a Brent Spiner video where he said some folk in the US pronounce 'data' as Day-ta because of Star Trek.

And Data is pronounced Day-ta because that's how Patrick Stewart pronounced it in a read though and a rule was made, the first person to say a Star Trek character name out loud gets to chose the pronunciation.

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@Virginicus Was the spelling of Grey not changed for US editions of the book?

lydiaconwell,
@lydiaconwell@mas.to avatar

@Virginicus Day-ta is how British people pronounce it but in the US it is sometimes pronounced Dar-ta or Dah-ta

So if you listen here from the 58 second mark he pronounces it dahta.
