The zipper on my laptop bag broke.
I don't have the skills to fix it, so I wanted to get a new one.
All products I've seen so far only come in dark colors like black, gray. Very few of them come in brighter colors like pink or purple. When they do have it in the bright colors, they're clearly labeled as "for women", have less features, look more like handbags, and cost more (from $10-40$ more). #PinkTax
@mariatta I swear by my Nordace Sienna (15" original and 13" pro) bag which comes in many colors. However, when I bought mine years ago it was much cheaper. I found it after months of looking around and ran into the same issues you're describing: many bags look so technical instead of beautiful accessories.
Client:
"We strictly follow PEP 8 to the extent that we use multiple linters in our CI and pre-commit, isort, autoformatting tools, etc."
Me:
Writes PR that fulfills all that as well as docstrings which conform to PEP 257 (one blank line between summary and detailed description). I'm a Python core developer, after all.
Same client:
"That's an overkill. Change requested: remove blank lines in multiline docstrings."
Really missed seeing my fishes after being away from home for almost 2 weeks. I counted each one of them, and happy to report that they're doing fine. 😊 The baby fishes have grown bigger since last time I saw them, they're no longer blurry blob on camera.
At PyCon US a friend showed me his camera for his cat so he could watch his cat while away, so maybe next time I'll get the same nanny cam too.
Any software download instructions for different hardware architecture (like x86 vs 64 bit vs whatever) should also be accompanied with "here's how to find out what architecture the machine has"
Kinda confused 😵 not sure if I'm still going home tonight?? As soon as I touched down at YYZ, I got multiple flight cancelled/delayed email notifications (and SMS, and Mobile app notifications).
🤷♀️
Sitting it all out while I'm snacking at Maple Leaf Lounge, I'll read it all later once they finalize it. I'm sure it will all work out. My travel insurance will cover whatever I need, so no worries. #travel
I got a seat in airplane and I'm headed home for realz now.
Delayed by 90 minutes.
Was given $15 meal voucher.
Moved to a middle seat of an emergency row.
Eh, 🤷♀️ there are worse things in the world to complain about. #travel
When will I learn 🥹 some things are too good to be true..
We've been on the runway for one hour now. Still told to hold on while they wait for maintenance crew.
I tried getting up to use the lavatory but was told to sit back down 😣 ( made it there on my second attempt 10 minutes later when no crew member around 🙈)
Now the flight crew are making a round giving free earbuds (normally costs $)
@mariatta Have a safe trip home! I really enjoyed your presence at the conference. I wish I had actually chatted with you in the hallways. I guess there’s always next year!
Selfie Inside the conference venue. Above, signage of directions to the hall, as well as digital monitor showing PyCon US logo and a text: Thank you for joining us! In front of room 305 Mariatta wearing KN95 face mask Animated text: Bye #PyConUS
@mariatta “how to get paid doing things I’m good at”. That sounds like a dream! I’ve only currently figured out how to get paid doing things I’m NOT good at!
@andy_warb That's still good, at least you're getting paid at all 😅 Currently I'm doing the things, and people continued asking for my help to do things, but I'm not getting paid
Just sent my family to the airport.
I'm still here for the rest of the sprints until Thursday 1 PM when I had to leave for the airport myself.
Apologies that I haven't been available to chat/read emails/notifications during the conference now but now I'm much more available so would love to catch up with people now during the sprints.
cd is used infinite times more often than mkdir, so it makes sense for it to be shorter and faster to type
cd is generally safe and easy to recover from mistakes, while mkdir is neither, so it makes sense that mkdir is more difficult to use
I guess the real reason is these systems were more cobbled together than designed, and any consistencies are really achieved by a pure chance. Just look at command line flags of all the base tools.
$ of @pycon travel grants awarded by @ThePSF ($350K) might be a record too 🤔 Don't quote me yet, I'll have to check that first.
Record-breaking or not, it is impressive considering we received less sponsors and less sponsorships dollars this year. #PyConUS
