I listen to all kinds of music with saturation (and loads of [post-]metal/hardcore/rock). I support artists I like as much as I can. I (badly) play the guitar (Les Paul & Orange amp). Toots about music, occasionally food, sometimes politics (leftist). French guy, toots in English. He/him.

Yes, please occupy one of 2 charging spots with your stinky dinosaur car and make sure to park as close to the line as possible, even though there is plenty of space on the other side.
I should have parked my car (the white one) much closer to you, so you couldn't get in, but I am not as big of an asshole.

For context: this is the parking lot of hospital. Visitors have to pay except if you use the charging stations.

ETA: I am aware that this is a first world problem.

@derthomas you probably can rejoice that they were not the kind of asshole to park on two spots to avoid any scratch on their fucking car

I have been told by my coworkers that some younger people consider it aggressive when you use thumbs up or put a period at the end of a text message.

I would ask for an explanation if why, but I donโ€™t think it would help.

mbr,
@mbr@metalhead.club avatar

@DXMacGuffin @kohelet there is a difference in the usage of punctuation depending on the generation: older (i.e. boomers & X) generations tend to use it as a phonetic tool (close to grammar in many cases) while younger generations (Y & Z) as an interactional one, to convey emotions. So a dot in the end of a sentence can be perceived as an abrupt end and therefore aggressive. A bit like the difference between "so much fun!" and "so much fun."

mbr,
@mbr@metalhead.club avatar

@DXMacGuffin @kohelet (I'm from the mid 80s so an old Y who also easily understands the X ๐Ÿ˜…)

mbr,
@mbr@metalhead.club avatar

@DXMacGuffin @kohelet I understand you but I think there are some important points here:

  • written language is language and thus fluid and evolving
  • Y gen is the first generation to actively use written language to communicate instantaneously from the start and it impacts the way we write and express ourselves, especially to convey emotions
  • these new gens know grammar and how to use it but it is adaptive/adapted depending on the context

Update ๐Ÿงต about my getting in shape story

If you follow my account, you may have noticed that I am on a getting in shape journey this year.

I was on my way to hit 100kg rather sooner than later. I didn't step on the scales for a long time, knowing that I wont like the results. And when I did, I didn't like the results. I was actually in shock.

Now, I don't care too much about the numbers, but I do care about how I feel and honestly also about how I look. I hated both.

Can we agree already that Summer '85 was the best summer of the 80s? ๐Ÿ˜‚

DVNE's Voidkind is one of the albums I'm listening to the most at the moment. And it's a grower!
I was not really familiar with them before but what I like in this album is the diversity of sounds: some parts sound sludgy and remind me of early Baroness and other similar acts from the '00s, some parts are really progy in a Tool way, some parts are lurking towards post-metal with repetitive riffs and nice atmosphere. The combination of fry, throat and clear singing is the icing on the cake!

Today is my daughter's birthday. And among other things, we'll offer her a kalimba. At 3 she got a ukulele. At 1 a percussion set. I can't explain why (๐Ÿ™„), but she seems to like music ๐Ÿ˜„
Oh and of course my son got his own percussion set for his first birthday, and my parents offered him something with a xylophone, a cymbal and a small drum and he's almost never leaving his drumsticks, I feel like having a tiny version of a drummer at home now!

@HailsandAles @MFDOOMALLCAPS what I love about this place is that two of the people tooting the most and sharing the most music (on the metallic side of things), and especially one really into extreme stuff, are casually expressing their love for Taylor Swift.
