Today is my daughter's birthday. And among other things, we'll offer her a kalimba. At 3 she got a ukulele. At 1 a percussion set. I can't explain why (🙄), but she seems to like music 😄
Oh and of course my son got his own percussion set for his first birthday, and my parents offered him something with a xylophone, a cymbal and a small drum and he's almost never leaving his drumsticks, I feel like having a tiny version of a drummer at home now!

Our daughter made it 3.5 years without breaking or bricking her 1st cellphone, so we got her a new one today. I'm in the middle of setting it up, and it's probably the most time she's spent with me in months.

I guess I'm lame or something...

My four year old came home from preschool saying “Utapau” constantly, because we read a Star Wars book last night. Aaaaand now the toddler has started copying, saying “Utapowow.” 😜

My daughter bought me a new pin. She's been home on spring break and made a tidy sum doing work around the house. Cleaning blinds, painting trim/molding and a variety of other tasks. She went shopping and bought her mom and I both something with her "hard earned cash". Her words 😁

My daughter got straight A's and wants Dairy Queen, so we're heading to South County. Ice cream doesn't sound bad right now, it's 72°F even with the thunderstorms.

Have a good evening everyone! 🙂

🎉 Random indieweb inspiration for the day: My daughter's college Advertising PR class is hand editing HTML+CSS for a project "about me" assignment in VSCode -- and that is so cool -- and it was one of the best "hey dad, guess what we are doing today" text messages of all time

We let my daughter have a few friends over. Between them and the zoo we keep I'm going crazy. 🤪 Too many 12 year olds in one place is bad for your health.

This definitely earns me a small j later if anything does.

The homemade chicken pot pie for dinner is the only thing keeping me here. 🐔🥧

My daughter's soccer team suffered a brutal loss this afternoon. They were up 2-0, but the other team tied it up on a pair of PKs (both times the fouls were called on the same defender) and then a defensive breakdown allowed the other team to bloop the ball over my daughter's head and into the goal in the final minutes of the game.

The good news is that if they win again tomorrow morning, they'll make the finals and likely face this same team for a revenge match!

As expected, my daughter's team played this same team again in the tournament finals, but this time they won 2-1! Ironically, it came down to 2 PKs (my daughter's team has played this team three times and there's been 5 PKs total - it's apparently a pretty physical rivalry).

My daughter made the play of the game with a one-on-one save on her backfoot as she was moving back towards the goal. She was all smiles afterwards since her coach and teammates credited her with the win!

My twin daughters, Moxie and Clarity, turn 16 today. I know it's cliche, but the time really does seem to go by so quickly. I'm so proud of the people they've become. They're open-minded, empathetic, smart, funny, and 100% themselves. I'm excited to watch their futures unfold. Happy birthday girls! ❤️

Wanted to share something good…

My daughter’s back in school, which means I’m back in school (homework). She’s learning algebra. I took it in the 6th grade with 7th/8th graders. But I forgot most of it.

She was crying when we sat down. She didn’t understand any of it. First I had to learn it, then try to explain it differently. By the time we finished, she was smiling and racing through the problems. That felt really good.

I reached a milestone just now. I did a fart of respectable tone and duration (nothing fancy, but satisfying). Right after my 4yo son did two at twice the duration apiece, two octaves deeper in tone, while doing a little dance.

She's suffering a bit of imposter syndrome (like we all do).

At the same time she's preparing a short performance to be done before a show of Junior Ballet Antwerp. As it's not a long performance not everybody can join, not a problem for her as she's been assigned the center position on the front row 😳

My daughter found out she needs glasses and came home in tears yesterday. She's worried about being made fun of. I doubt that will be the case but I'm not a preteen girl so I can't relate. So today after work I stopped and ordered myself two pairs of glasses, 1 regular 1 sunglasses and plan on joining her in solidarity. If they make fun of her they can talk to me and all the kids are terrified of me.
