To any Threads users who happen to stumble on this post.

Hi!

You are going to see a TON of pushback being here. That's not your fault though. You see, we've all become free of centralized services which make you a product rather then a user. So to some, allowing Meta to federate, is like drinking poison and not expecting it to kill you.

With that said, my hopes is that this will give you the opportunity to see how much better it is to be a USER and not the PRODUCT.

Leave Meta. We have cake.

me,

@Mrfunkedude I've reshared this, though I don't know what good it'll do since I've already defederated from Meta... 🤷‍♂️

So far, only 2,800 Threads accounts have turned on Federation. Of the ones I see, they’re quite active.

I suspect the reason for the minuscule federated accounts is because Threads users can’t see replies from the Fediverse yet. Why would you turn on federation if you’re oblivious to interactions from the Fediverse?

Nevertheless, we’ll see what happens once communication becomes two-way.

@fediversenews

me,

@atomicpoet Does the average Threads user even know what federation does, or even that it exists in the first place?

please tell me the most obscure joke you know

(feel free to explain or not explain it, depending on what you find more amusing to think of me reading it)

me,

@xgranade I simultaneously do not understand this, yet at the same time feels completely in-line with what I do understand about quantum mechanics (i.e.: take everything that makes intuitive sense and throw it out the window).

Hey folks. I've finally determined the last digit of pi. It's 7. You're welcome.

It should come as no surprise to anyone who's been paying attention that I've grown disillusioned with capitalism over the past several years. What's interesting to me though is that any time I express this publicly, there are no shortage of capitalists who falsely assert that I am claiming that communism is the ultimate solution to everything. This is a false dichotomy.

I am not saying I have the answers to the world's problems. I just have eyes to see that the emperor has no clothes.

Edit: typo

All bluetooth audio devices should be required to have a button on them to disconnect and re-enter pairing mode without the device they're connected to relinquishing control.

So, last I checked you could still buy PCB mountable sockets for them, bit does anyone know if anyone's still manufacturing NES-compatible controllers?

Today while I was out, I saw a guy at a busy intersection holding a handwritten sign. Obviously, I assumed he was panhandling, because people frequently do that there.

As I approached, I saw that his sign only had a URL on it. Out of curiosity, I visited it. Turns out it was some bitcoin mining scam.

While this was definitely a novel marketing approach, I wonder how they figured this particular tactic would instill confidence in anyone...

My understanding of is that it is very comparable with feature-wise. I only use Git because I discovered it first. It just so happens that it seems to have become the de-facto standard version control system these days.

For those who use Mercurial instead: why? Does it offer something that Git does not, or is it simply personal preference/familiarity?

Hey fedi,

Does anyone know how I can subscribe to a magazine from a non-kbin fedi account? I assume there is some way to do this.

I was today years old when I learned that when inputting a password that doesn't echo on the terminal, I can usually hit CTRL-U to clear the password if I mistype instead of spamming the backspace key to be sure I've got it all.

What is a barbell?

me,

@kingu I feel like this person's trolling. "Can think for herself" feels a little too on the nose.

Then again, it sometimes shocks me how openly some people say the quiet part out loud, so who's to say?

What if the reason we've never seen a time traveler isn't because it's impossible, but because humanity is going to wipe itself out before anyone figures out how?
