Thought for the day: Frank Zappa was a genius and understood exactly the role that rock music played in enabling young people to transgress the socio-sexual mores of society at that time. There are many Zappa videos on YouTube. Please take a look. From his very first appearance on American TV he disrupted convention thinking. People laughed because he was an odd ball, comic relief, but what he did was open minds to what is musically possible. Let me know if you agree!

We are in “No Mow May” and the lawn is looking pretty shaggy. This article describes what is going on. Our HOA will no doubt descend on us, but a city ordinance now overrules the HOA rule about mowing. We are allowed to let the lawn go wild in May to provide for all kinds of critters to get a good start after winter. At other places we’ve lived, we always nurtured back-to-nature lawns.

@woozle @bynkii @mekkaokereke I wish that the word “woke” would go away. It was turned into a pejorative by right wing extremists to mock anyone who thought and talked critically about race and justice issues. Now they have extended the word to everyone who are not a small-minded racist, fascist assholes like themselves. I refuse to adopt their framing and language.

So the wants to win a popularity contest by telling people what they want to hear? “The science hasn’t changed” says the WaPo article, reporting that CDC will lift guidelines for 5-day isolation because nobody is doing it anyway. My spouse and I have never contracted and we will continue to follow the science. It has long been clear that “public health” favors economic health over personal health. The CDC is no longer a credible source of -based advice.

“…counties where a large majority voted for Donald Trump have a death rate more than three times higher than the rate in heavily Biden counties."

Not vaxing and masking are considered political acts by . Not about misinformation. They know. Group pressure, too.

Without mandatory vaccination, this trend will not change.

Tragic, yes, but more for them than others 🫤

I’m in the outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. The sky is clear and the is bright enough to provide dim illumination. I just heard a howl from the distance. Another one, closer, answered it. Then a pack behind me and several more on each side joined in. Are they howling at the moon? At prey? At me? I can’t see them, which is how they want it. I walked the dozen or so paces to my shelter, and now I am telling you all about it. I still hear them, nearby.

1/ Many behaviors are prohibited because they endanger others.

Second-hand smoke from is dangerous. It once posed a serious health risk indoors and indoor was eventually banned in virtually all public spaces in the US. The smokers complained that their “right” to smoke anywhere was being infringed. There is no such right. …

@meltedcheese People in the U.S.A. seem to have forgotten that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled about 120 years ago that you do not have the right to endanger your fellow citizens and that this overrides the First Amendment (Bill of Rights) in the Constitution.

The power to enforce this is very great (the extent of it would shock most Americans) and is in the hands of the governors of the states. But none of them seem to have the courage to use that power today. It was used during the Spanish Flu Epidemic and is credited with saving at least 20,000 lives in the City of San Francisco alone.

South America is having a huge heat wave with some temps around 100 F. This wouldn’t be unusual except it is WINTER in the southern hemisphere. It occurs to me that we are seeing is the end of seasons as we’ve known them. Throw out your almanacs. In the era of and disasters, anything is possible, especially extreme .

meltedcheese,
@meltedcheese@c.im avatar

@GhostOnTheHalfShell That sounds very mild, and even tolerable. I think it will not be so. If I understand scientists correctly (some are personal friends), we will yearn for actual seasons with tolerable conditions. We have turned on our oven to pre-heat. Next the broiler will come on. Too hot! Too quickly! The result is absolute horror. This might be our world, in our lifetime.

Please be kind, every day, to everyone you meet. Especially children.

Never mind. I composed a witty and paradigm twisting toot and then accidentally touched something on my iPad that made it go away. I’m sure that I’m not alone in this experience. When I woke up, I found myself on the lawn outside in my underwear, wrestling with the TV remote.

Please be careful out there. Your toots have power beyond imagination.

The Heritage Foundation, funded by the Koch brothers, wants to kill you. Or they simply do not care. They have put together a plan for the next Republican President to dismantle every environmental and program, policy and agency in the US Gov.
