@actuallyautistic Late diagnosed here, last year aged 55. I'm remembering stuff from my life and going "ah, that makes sense" a lot. An example is when I was accused of skipping school(I was waiting for my Dad to pick me up for an appointment, with permission) and I just meekly took a telling off from the Head of House because I didn't have the words to tell her she was wrong.

mraharrison,
@mraharrison@mstdn.social avatar

@arisummerland @actuallyautistic I could never talk to teachers or tutors. Hated admitting I needed help so I nearly failed my first year at University. There's more help now, my son has a counsellor.

@actuallyautistic Hi all adults over 40, who were late diagnosed like me to share experiences. What's the best thing you did once you knew?

mraharrison,
@mraharrison@mstdn.social avatar

@miffyhelen @actuallyautistic Oh yes! That sounds like me. Thank you, you've explained that solo trip I took in 2001! I visited Prague, Vienna and Venice but all I wanted to so was lay in bed or sit in cafes reading. I remember walking to the Guggenheim in Venice and just turning around and going back to the hotel because I wasn't in the mood.

@researchbuzz @actuallyautistic Yeah I'm now a teacher, I know how hard it is for ND kids, especially when teachers don't get you.

mraharrison,
@mraharrison@mstdn.social avatar

@joshsummer @actuallyautistic Yep. For 15 years I argued with my father in law, then I understood myself (and him) and we don't argue now. I was trying hard to be "normal" in his eyes now I'm just me.

I'm still struggling to find a fitting name for the medieval RPG I'm working on.. 🤔

So much is taken and I don't wanna step on any (studio) balls

Even tried AI but that only gives me stuff that exists already so back to the brainboard :blobcatgiggle:

Something short, one- maybe two words, with a medieval, grim, dark theme that people can remember and is still available in Steam (domain can be worked around)

I love the words Sepulchre, Funereal and Bleak, and if it's your game you can make up words, like
The Sepulchrion
Sepulchral Quest
Funeriad
Funerealore
Bleakweald
Bleaklore

I have read 40 books this year. That's the most ever in adulthood I think. Add podcasts, blogs and research papers and I've consumed a lot of great thinking this year. Favourite books probably Lessons by Ian McEwan and The Information by James Gleick. http://www.goodreads.com/user_challenges/42172877

Just finished Lessons by Ian McEwan. Stunning book. Loved it. Can't write a review right now I'm still inside the world in the book. I need a while to come out of it. Ever feel like that?

Made this baby today, from a 30kg pumpkin my neighbour grew.

@donwatkins Thanks, the neighbour has an allotment and usually gets half a dozen pumpkin but this year the plot (all one plant) just poured all it's energy into one fruit!
Here's George measuring the beast at 20 inches across, and it weighed 31.5kg or nearly 70lb.

120 years ago, a stage illusionist decided to take a famous scientist down a peg or two, and in the process became arguably the first white-hat hacker. PLACES AVAILABLE on GIRLS INTO COMPUTING remote course next Thursday 4th May 15:45 - 17:15.
In GCSE Science, boys outnumber girls 4 to 1. Some reasons are a lack of role models, unconscious bias, and a non-inclusive curriculum.
