@bookstodon Even if it doesn't catch on, I would like to institute #WhatchaReadingWednesday a hashtag which already exists, I believe? Anywho, whatcha reading?
#IAmReading Ben H. Winter's new book BIG TIME, and it's really good so far. It is lean, so perfect for those who hate padding in their stories. I don't want to give away the premise, so I will just say that it's a bit of a thriller that involves time itself.
Been around the Hmong in NorCal all my life and knew a bit of their history, but this book is eye opening. My son read it for a high school English class last year and was surprised I had not read it.
@jake4480 No Ron and I’m not sure who was on bass and drums, although they were nice dudes. Good crew all around, no surprise. I don’t usually take my phone out at shows.
@flexghost Martin vs Boise set precedent that cities (states in this case?) cannot enforce anti-camping laws unless they provide enough beds to shelter people.
Chico, CA (where I live) tried to enforce a law similar to Boise’s and we now at least have better and more shelters after Chico got shellacked in court.
#Mastodon. Time to make a comprehensive list of #movies that are #ChristmasMovies without you even realizing they are Christmas movies.
i.e.
Die Hard (the default)
Batman Returns
Gremlins (yeah I think it counts)
Iron Man 3 (but I don’t remember it to confirm)
…and one I just realized… Edward Scissorhands.
Boost and add on. I want to see what you geniuses come up with.
I was thinking about the two people I have encountered in my lifetime who don't like music - any music. They just don't like it. It made me wonder just how many people truly do not like music. So, you know me, here's a #poll
Yes, this question is as simple as it seems. It applies to any genre of music. So, if you ONLY like one genre and nothing else, you would still answer yes. Only answer no if you don't like ANY music.
With thousands of genres/sub-genres (and even more artists/songs), I start to question the discernment of anyone who likes it “all.”
(Important to distinguish between liking and appreciating here. I appreciate Merzbow’s contributions to music and have enjoyed his performances, but I don’t think I “like” his music.)
HOW INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS has been out for a month! (A fortnight, if you’re British.) New newsletter has links to reviews, excerpts, interviews and also, because nearly everyone I talked to about the book has lots of cool things going on, other interesting projects and pieces:
