Gotta resist watching the new Assassin’s Creed trailer.

Ubisoft is way too good at pulling me in with good premises and cool cinematic trailers. I’ll wait for the gameplay trailers and damn it, I am going to do all I can to not get suckered in. Ubisoft and Bethesda are damn good at baiting me. 🙃

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@tashen I've read lots of the coverage. It really is looking/sounding like the AC game fans have been asking for since AC 3. It is so hard to not get hyped. Right now I am just trying to contain my hype into: I am excited to see gameplay. Once I see gameplay (and depending upon how good the gameplay is) then I can get excited for the game itself.

I wish the Music app on Apple Watch had haptic feedback for taps for going next or previous. That’s literally all I need for it to be happy switching from Spotify. My main reason for this is for feedback without looking down while driving.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@tashen Probably the biggest feature keeping me with Spotify over Apple Music is Spotify Connect. It is just so convenient to play on one device and everything else is a remote. And console support, but I kinda have workarounds for that via headsets with dual connections.

EighthLayer, to Spotify
@EighthLayer@mstdn.games avatar

Just found out that Spotify have secretly introduced new “Basic” plans which just removes access to audio books and drops the monthly cost a little bit.

Worth looking at if you’re like me and use Spotify but aren’t the slightest bit interested in audio books on their platform.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@EighthLayer Unfortunately it doesn't look like I have access to those plans. I just have Premium Individual, Student, Duo, Family, or Spotify Free. :kitten_sad:

Is there a alternative? I seem to recall someone mentioning one to me like it was a less expensive no-brainer because it would also run some Windows software.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@punkscience_ns There is the ROG Ally, Legion Go, and MSI Claw. None of those are really less expensive than the . The biggest complaint against those alternatives is the fact that they do run Windows. With the Steam Deck running it's own custom built version of Linux, it turns into a better overall gaming experience. You don't have to deal with things like waiting for Asus or Lenovo to update their software to fix stuff after each Windows update.

I have a wedding to go to tomorrow. I hate going to weddings. Especially ones where I basically don’t know anyone.

It’s just full of socially awkward small talk I don’t care for, with people I’ll never speak to again in my life. What’s the point?

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@EighthLayer I have had to go to a few for my wife's friends. They are always so awkward. Events like that make me really wish that devices like the Steam Deck were more socially acceptable. Unfortunately you'll just look like a jerk gaming the whole time, but scrolling on your phone and ignoring most people is fine for some reason.

Last week I started and I was thinking I’d put it down with the Next Gen update coming out for , but it appears the update is actually kind of underwhelming on PC. I have never played New Vegas and had only ever played 4 for a few hours. I installed some of Viva New Vegas mods (mostly for Bug Fixes and some Quality of Life features) on my PC and and I am enjoying it quite a bit.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds I haven’t actually tried it myself, so I am not sure. I was personally looking forward to the Steam Deck verification, but that appears to have been a joke. They removed the launcher to get it verified, but now you have to do a bunch of extra steps to change graphic settings. Apparently it still runs at half the locked frame rate of the Steam Deck OLED and crashes when closing the keyboard. So the “verified” update made things worse, not better.

While I am personally against the idea of achievements, I recognize that some of you play for that reason primarily, so this might be interesting news for you:

“While playing the game, you can earn PlayStation Trophies just like on PlayStation consoles. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC shares the same Trophy set as the game on PlayStation 5 consoles. In addition, the PC version also has full support for Achievements on Steam and the Epic Games Store.”

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@darth this is an awesome edition. I was pretty sure Sony would add trophies to their PC games at some point. It makes sense with them shifting their focus to multi platform.

A Season Pass on a full price game with content locked behind it on day one? Hell no.

https://www.ign.com/articles/star-wars-outlaws-jabba-the-hutt-mission-locked-behind-season-pass

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@UKFilmNerd @EighthLayer The funny thing is that could literally be like 3 months from release with some of these games. If they don't sell well at launch, they plummet in price so fast.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@EighthLayer @UKFilmNerd sometimes it can be. If it just reviews bad (maybe someone that isn't a fan of the genre reviews it at IGN or something) or has performance problems that get patched out, then it is sometimes worth a playthrough. But most of the time when that happens, it's probably worth just sticking with your backlog and maybe check it out when it is free on Epic Games store or part of a Humble Bundle in a year or two.

natejung,

@InfiniteHench Interesting. It would make sense if you somehow had a laptop CPU in it, but that is not a laptop CPU.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

Yup. There it is: "Art of Metamorphosis".

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@EighthLayer Agreed. Luckily I found out it is just a time saving microtransaction by reading other reviews. Not as scummy, but still.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@EighthLayer as far as I can tell from reviews, all the microtransactions are just time savers and you can earn the stuff by playing the game. I haven't played it myself so I cannot confirm.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@EighthLayer depending upon the game, gameplay, and how much of a grind they make it, I can see some people wanting to spend money to skip parts of games. But if a game is bad enough to warrant me wanting to pull out my wallet to save time, esp in a single player game, I am usually better off going and playing a different game.

Current Beta implementation of Threads Fediverse seems pretty terrible tbh. All you can see is the number of likes a post gets. You cannot see replies or boosts. At least we can see the posts of those users here, I guess. They are pretty much view only though as interacting with them doesn't notify the original poster that anything is happening (and they have no way to interact with you). Hopefully this gets improved in the future.

Mrfunkedude, to random
@Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social avatar

To any Threads users who happen to stumble on this post.

Hi!

You are going to see a TON of pushback being here. That's not your fault though. You see, we've all become free of centralized services which make you a product rather then a user. So to some, allowing Meta to federate, is like drinking poison and not expecting it to kill you.

With that said, my hopes is that this will give you the opportunity to see how much better it is to be a USER and not the PRODUCT.

Leave Meta. We have cake.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@Mrfunkedude unfortunately they won't see this for a long time/ maybe ever. Their current "federation" beta is just their posts being shared here. Nothing goes there at the moment (except for the number of likes the post gets). They don't get replies and they can't see our posts.

We're approaching the ten year anniversary of when the games community got up in arms about a tutorial level that allowed you to stealthily sneak up on your in-game wife and give them a loving kiss.

How time flies.

@EighthLayer @danielholt I remember it because I thought it was a clever way to do the stealth tutorial.
