The more "popular" the Fediverse is becoming, the less interested I am in using it.
We complain a lot about mainstream social media companies (as we should), but most people don't realize that the biggest problem is how they have been able to manipulate everyone into believing that a growth-mindset (more followers, engagement, reach) is actually beneficial to the self.
In doing so, they've spurred on addiction and trained the public into being promotional content farms for them. Resist that.
Also, too much focus on the fear that the #Fediverse will get chopped up into isolated clusters, not talking to each other.
I think that's perfect.
We've already got that. Somewhere out there is a whole 'nother Fediverse, full of nazis and pedophiles and foul-mouthed 4chan trolls ... and they're (I assume) happy there.
If 95% of this Fediverse decides to federate with Facebook, I'm fine with being in the left-over tiny-server isolationist group, and fuck the rest of ya.
There are actually many other "alternative" technologies that look—at least on paper—much more feasible than a space elevator. Some could almost definitely be built today, with no magical tech or unobtainium.
My favorite is launch loops.
The problem is they are all cheap per pound, once built, but they have huge start-up costs ... require a whole new Apollo program.
Please start a lemmy or kbin community group, with the goal of eventually turning it into your new primary group, and start encouraging the Reddit users to move there.
Don't wait until Reddit looks like Twitter; get ahead of that curve.
Try an intro post that includes the "introduction" hashtag. Should get you some more exposure here.
Edit: Actually never mind ... looks like you're already getting plenty of interaction. It just took my server a while to federate with yours, to see the response you've gotten.
Just for a fun, geeky, "old-school" home-made website, I'd suggest checking out @Wuzzy 's personal site ( https://wuzzy.codeberg.page/ ). I think they have some good tips there,,on how to make your own, too. But be warned; they really like the color orange.
Edit: Bonus, it's set up on Codeberg, which automatically (like GitHub) gives you a free, "no effort" website to use, just by joining.
I am, too. Grew up on a farm. Raised and butchered my own animals, had chickens in the yard and rabbits in the barn for much of my childhood and adulthood.
Becoming vegetarian wasn't a quick-and-easy decision ... and I do still eat cheese. Need to quit that, soon.
