Why am I so drawn to mermaid horror manga?

negativeprimes,

@mdmrn Mikane and the Sea Woman, Sinner of the Deep Sea, This Monster Wants to Eat Me, to name a few.

Inb4 companies try applying gacha mechanics to groceries and utilities. "w00t! Limited banner mac n cheese tonight!"

@negativeprimes @neatchee I think we need to find a Kaiji reaction pack or something for this one.

@neatchee@urusai.social avatar

@matt5sean3 @negativeprimes find it and I'll add it :p

Welp, no more Re:Monster. SA played for laughs is a no-go.

neatchee,
@neatchee@urusai.social avatar

@negativeprimes Yikes. I'm not watching but went to see what the deal was and it's like....there are so many ways to do that comedy bit that don't involve SA :( Awful choice.

@neatchee 1000%! And it just seems like it's going to lean harder in this direction.

A really interesting approach would have been to have the MC wrestle with his own morals from Japan in the context of the goblins' culture. Of course, he quickly becomes so powerful he can make that culture whatever he wants without resistance. What a waste.

My mind is blown. According to Wikipedia, the Amazon rainforest is largely the result of 11,000 years of intentional cultivation by South American civilizations, not just nature doing its thing. It's awe-inspiring to think of what humans can accomplish with creativity, work, cooperation (with each other and nature), and time.

If I had read "Magus of the Library" when I was younger, I would have become a librarian, guaranteed. The art, the characters, the plot, the worldbuilding, the passion for books and libraries!

Ugh! I want Robin because she'll make PF easier... And Topaz might be a good Fire DPS... And I've wanted Fu Xuan as a mega-support for forever... And Boothill's character design looks hilariously hyper-American...

I cannot afford this next update.

Twice recently, relatives of mine struggling with severe depression started taking Vitamin D and saw improvement within days. I'm not promising any results for anyone else, but it might be worth looking into with your doctor.

Yesterday I injured my shoulder. And it occurred to me, that's not a bad metaphor for how I try to "shoulder" too much. When I'm not going at 100%, I feel like I should be doing more-- until I overdo it like this.

Protect your downtime, folks!

My oldest kid said someone should start a YouTube channel where folks discuss predestination while working out at the gym. It would be called "Calvin & Abs."

Started my week off with an unexpected tech support call for cell phone problems. There's an hour and a half I didn't expect to use quite in that way.

... But I'm very happy that that's all it took to fix things.

Happy Monday!

@mdmrn@urusai.social avatar

@negativeprimes Glad it was a relatively quick fix for you.

Today I set out to memorize the titles of all the Discworld books in order. I've made it to twenty (Hogsfather, which was over of the first I read) so far.

negativeprimes,
@negativeprimes@urusai.social avatar

@anianimalsmoe I didn't memorize the numbers, but I believe they're 8th, 37th, and 24th.

@negativeprimes
Oh, I was assuming you were using some memory mnemonic that had them in order, like how people sing all the US states. :meowthinking:

My kid didn't like reading "The Fall of the House of Ussher", but I told them not to be too hard on the author because he was just a Poe boy from a Poe family.

If I had a nickel for every anime with a light-haired girl with a supernatural past learning about the value and dignity of the homeless while her friend lives like a parasite off some local guy, I'd have two nickels. Not a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.

TIL that coelacanths (those supposedly extinct fish that were found to be still around) can grow up to SIX AND A HALF FRIGGIN' FEET LONG and weigh up to 200 LBS!

That's not a fish-- that's the whole seafood section!
