Macbook takes 3 minutes to wake up from sleep.
First window I see: “Force Quit Applications”
Home Assistant (not responding) 82.52 GB
Yeah, of course it is the app.
The journey continues: https://noc.social/@noim/112365439208108204
I installed the newest TestFlight now. Maybe this will help ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I mean, I can understand the devs a bit. This issue randomly occurs and is probably hard to debug. But 2 years is way too long for a bug like this to exist.

Ookaaay… I haven't run any benchmarks yet… but I'm running some initial setup things on the Netcup VPS and they happen, like, instantly 😳 I'm like "what, it's done already?"... I have a feeling there will be a noticeable difference in numbers vs my current one. And it's the Intel one, I also got an ARM one which might be faster?

noim,
@noim@noc.social avatar

@mackuba Now I am interested: Where did you host before?

noim,

@mackuba Having fair use for transfer is less stressful :D But yes, this looks a bit expensive.

    Ich bin auf der Suche nach einem WiFi-/Zigbee/Matter Zwischenstecker für Ein/Ausschalten und vor allem Verbrauchsmessung.

    Wäre schön, wenn das Ding unauffällig und kompakt wäre und ein Interface hätte, das halbwegs offen ist, zum Beispiel für Home Assistant.

    Habt ihr Empfehlungen? :)

    noim,
    @noim@noc.social avatar

    @thomas Nous A1T oder Nous A1Z. Günstig, kompakt und mit Verbrauchsmessung. Ach und A1T ist mit Tasmota, was nice ist.

    @zachleat Depends on ambient light. In the night, don’t burn my eyes with light mode. In the middle of the day, please light mode.

    Switched to @protonmail from Apple iCloud+ service, and imported all mails from my primary Gmail too. Very satisfied with the experience from setting up my custom domain to easy imports of my data. Definitely more secure and I even learned a lot about email security along the way. :)

    A few wish list items:

    1. plain text emails on mobile
    2. setting to use plain text by default
    3. a native MacOS app
    4. a gmail-like experience in their apps (I really like using gmail apps)
    noim,
    @noim@noc.social avatar

    @ayo I didn’t know @protonmail supports custom domains. Maybe I should switch from my current provider.

    Sad. It appears that my public IP rotates fairly quickly with the new ISP, and it's making me feel ☹️. Having a static IP would be nice. The regional small ISP used by my parents provides static IPs by default, and it was awesome (except the speed and stability lol)! My parents still have the same public IP they had back in 2011.

    noim,
    @noim@noc.social avatar

    @CenturyAvocado This would be an alternative to dynamic dns. However, ips used by data centers are blocked sometimes for certain pages. Maybe I will just ask friendly and they will give me an static ip 🤔 They also habe business plans which have static ips as option. But I don’t want to pay for business. Maybe they will allow me to add the static ip option to my residential plan.

    noim,
    @noim@noc.social avatar

    @CenturyAvocado This is one issue. Looking at you, namecheap api.
    I mean, a pretty small issue, but it exists. And with dynamic dns there is always the possibility for it to fail and not update or some dns caching etc.

    Can you give me an example of an outstanding web app experience you’ve had that you will choose it over native apps? (Pls boost… for science)

    noim,
    @noim@noc.social avatar

    @ayo First, I hated that 1Password went electron. But to be honest, the app feels totally native and I stopped caring. Secondly, let’s all admit, who really cares that Spotify isn’t a native app?

    It always takes me way too much time to tell which of these apps on watchOS is for measuring time (stopwatch) and which is for counting down a given duration (timer)… Couldn't they look, like, slightly different? Different color maybe? 😅

    just tried out lima (a VM for running Linux on a Mac) and it's so much nicer to use than vagrant https://lima-vm.io/

    to use it, I just had to run:

    $ limactl start default
    (optionally edit config file, but you don't have to)
    $ lima

    by default it mounts my home directory as read-only inside the VM and forwards ports, so I don't even need to configure directory mappings

    (there's also a container runtime called colima built on top of lima, which I haven't tried)

    noim,
