Great reporting on the controversial article in the Jakarta Special Region bill proposing that the Jakarta Governor be appointed by the President.

A Betawi ethnic organization admitted it was their idea initially while acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono declined to respond to questions about the matter by reporters.

Multiple political parties in the Jakarta parliament have publicly rejected the idea.

Isn’t it funny that Ukraine, currently under attack and under siege by Russia abstained from a UN vote for a ceasefire to protect civilians in an area continuously under bombing raids by an invading force?

Even the Russian Federation is ironically calling for a ceasefire when they refuse to back out of Ukraine and continuously sending troops and missiles to destroy the country. Obviously they’ll vote against whatever the US position is.

President Jokowi doesn’t agree with the proposal by the parliament that Jakarta‘s future governors should be appointed by the president.

“If you ask me, the governor should be directly elected (by the people),” Jokowi said today. While he opposes the idea, he wants to see the discussions carried out in the parliament.

TikTok and Tokopedia have agreed to a comprehensive partnership in which TikTok Shop and Tokopedia will operate under the Tokopedia corporation controlled by TikTok Indonesia. The TikTok Shop inside the TikTok app will be run by Tokopedia. You get that?

Let’s try that again. TikTok Shop will return to the TikTok app in Indonesia, operated by Tokopedia but TikTok will assume control of the Tokopedia company, which is part of the GoTo corporation.

The ByteDance company will be investing more than $1.5 billion into the long term strategic partnership.

Basically GoTo is handing off Tokopedia to TikTok for $1.5 billion without actually ceding ownership and the GoTo corp will focus on Gojek and its subsidiary or affiliated companies.

Jakarta reports two COVID related deaths in December after two months of zero COVID fatalities.

One was an 81 year old woman, thrice vaccinated but has hypertension, the second was a 91 year old unvaccinated woman who suffered a stroke and heart failure.

There were 80 COVID cases in the capital between 27/11-3/12, 10 needed hospital care.

This anti democracy proposal from the national legislative assembly to change how Jakarta’s Governor is chosen is not the first time legislators have tried to revive former dictator Soeharto’s pseudo democracy governance and each time the excuse has always been to eliminate or save on election expenses.

These dirty legislators don’t want directly elected leaders, they want leaders they can control. Each time the push back has been clear and the legislators evade by saying it’s just a proposal which may or may not be passed.

TikTok Shop is coming back to Indonesia after the government ordered it shut down for dubious reasons in September.

After spending the last two months dancing with several potential partners, it appears that ByteDance will enter into a partnership with GoTo Group to revive TikTok Shop.

GoTo’s Tokopedia was reportedly among the chief complainant of TTS’s aggressive pricing schemes.

The Indonesian arm of the ASEAN super app company Grab and its financial subsidiary OVO have donated Rp3.5 billion in humanitarian aid for the victims of atrocities in Gaza through crowdfunding and CSR platform BenihBaik.

Grab Indonesia Country Managing Director Neneng Goenadi said, “We hope this aid can help alleviate the suffering of the victims of the conflict in Gaza and be put to use as necessary on the field.”

The press statement also said the company do not take a neutral stance in the protection of the absolute human rights and will support any effort to bring about peace that is real and just.

This donation came about as Grab is facing boycott in Malaysia after the group’s Malaysian CEO, Anthony Tan, and his wife appeared to show support for Israel, which has been launching air strikes to Gaza.

The death toll in Gaza has reached 10,000 people since October, nearly half of whom were children. Multiple schools and hospitals in Gaza have also been destroyed.

Prabowo’s coalition have officially announced President Jokowi’s son, Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his running mate for the 2024 Presidential Election. The pair will officially submit their application on Wednesday, the last day of the application. Talk about last minute submission.

The Golkar Party have announced their support for Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka to be Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto’s running mate for the 2024 Presidental election.

The party also said that Gibran has joined the party through its youth arm, AMPI, leaving his father President Jokowi’s party, PDIP.

Prabowo himself has yet to make a formal announcement.
