I am, once again, attempting to figure out how the fuck Okta's API actually works

plambrechtsen,
@plambrechtsen@mastodon.nz avatar

@mjg59 proxy the shizzle via postman or jmeter as Okta is a pain in the ass to grab the session token.
The nightmare continues.

plambrechtsen,
@plambrechtsen@mastodon.nz avatar

@mjg59 had a look through the Okta postman collection?? Looks like that has everything. https://developer.okta.com/docs/reference/rest/

plambrechtsen,
@plambrechtsen@mastodon.nz avatar

@mjg59 it’s been a few years since I have had to play with the Okta API and I have blacked it out for good reason.
But messing around in postman is how I always got it working first.
You can do an OIDC auth flow using postman and opening an external browser and then the back channel token exchange with the code. Assuming you’re doing a authorisation token flow.

Finally caved and bought a new TV. Old was a 2013-era 720p 32” Sony. New one is “Smart” 43” 4K TCL. $500 from Costco

It will never be on the network. It’s a dumb panel for the Apple TV.

So far so good. ECE appears to work (power on/off, volume). Has a “basic” mode which disables GoogleTV. Can tell it to start on previous port. Headphone out for our Tivoli

And yes TCL had a security thing. But without wifi or Ethernet that’s not really an issue.

plambrechtsen,
@plambrechtsen@mastodon.nz avatar

@fastchicken our one eventually just died. The LCD screen just failed I suspect because of a dry joint or something. Basically lost the bottom 15% of the screen.
For $500 it’s great value. But I suspect you will probably get 4-5 years out of it tops.

in 2009, on totally homebrew software, The Pirate Bay served 20 million simultaneous peers on 10 servers (20 for the website) for $3,000 a month.

i wonder how much serving 20 million simultaneous users costs netflix. there are ~260 million total subscribers of netflix (of which a fraction are active at a time) and its total operating expenses (which is obviously A Lot More Different Things Than TPB) are ~$7 Billion a year.

the comparison isn't all that ridiculous. netflix is about 10% of all bandwidth, and bittorrent used to be >30% of all bandwidth - of which TPB tracked roughly half.

https://web.archive.org/web/20210801122834/https://gigaom.com/2009/07/19/the-pirate-bay-distributing-the-worlds-entertainment-for-3000-a-month/

@jonny what seems wild to me is serving up 100Gbit/s Netflix and YouTube traffic 10 years ago is what a little country like 🇳🇿 was doing with the largest ISP.
YouTube has always had more traffic by volume than Netflix could ever achieve.
And serving up TBit/s takes a lot of CDN infrastructure right at the edge.
Love the idea of peertube but it’s grains of sugar and watermelon comparisons.

An Israeli bomb destroyed 4,000 embryos at a centre. Where is the outrage? - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/apr/20/israel-destroyed-embryos-bombing-ivf-center-gaza "The anti-abortion crowd who believe embryos are ‘extrauterine children’ has been weirdly silent about the strike" where indeed...?

plambrechtsen,
@plambrechtsen@mastodon.nz avatar

@glynmoody this is why the IDF destroyed all telecommunications infrastructure on the first days of the war. So it couldn’t be live streamed and there could be no moral uprising from western society.
It’s all so utterly grotesque.

Just did a live demo to around 60 people during our end of PI across the whole team. It involved me printing from a Windows 11 Azure only joined device back via VPN (which I got working) to the onprem printing service using cloud Kerberos (which I got working at the beginning of the meeting) And at the end I ran to the printer to pick up the test page and show it worked.

Like a gangster.

USB-C is great an all but I have small wood shavings in my headphone case charging port and I can't get the plug in there.

Bose also appear to have gone for the tightest possible tolerances. I can see it, I can't see how it got there.

plambrechtsen,
@plambrechtsen@mastodon.nz avatar

@jonoabroad the really strong plastic packing tape strips on very heavy boxes are excellent for cleaning ports out.
Or I have converted a used 1.5L plastic bottles and cut them into long pointy strips and used them as tweezers.
Its one advantage of the lightening ports is no central pin vs USB-C.

plambrechtsen,
@plambrechtsen@mastodon.nz avatar

@jonoabroad oh hell no to metal… plastic or the wooden bamboo skewers are the only things I use.
I remember laughing with a colleague that his wife completely trashed a brand new iPhone 11 by attempting to clean the powered on phone it with a metal needle… was a complete replacement in the end.

@jonoabroad AMAZING … those PCMCIA cards especially the Xircom ones with Ethernet and dialup were solid AF. I probably still have one of these in one of the various boxes I have under the house.

    @GossiTheDog it’s heartbreaking and could stop if the US told the IDF to stop. But the US doesn’t want that so they have mild placating meaningless words.

    @GossiTheDog it’s also the reason why the death toll hasn’t been rising as quickly. As hospitals are the places that the dead are taken and there are few functioning hospitals in Gaza. This isn’t by accident.

    Fun covid datapoint.

    I had it in 2022. Leonie had it last in mid 2023, and while I never tested +ve, I had the worst cold a week after, for 3 weeks. (I tested a LOT that month)

    Funny thing tho. Since then my palette has changed.

    I don’t like red wine much (used to be all I drank). I do like white (hated it before, largely). I dislike dark beer (all I used to drink). I like (within limits) normal beer.

    WTAF. Also RIP my mostly red wine cellar

    Need to test some other things like meat…

    @mikey @GossiTheDog it’s my view if a operations engineer can’t raise enough noise to their management saying “this is a red alert problem and we need to fix it now” and keep on going up the food chain until they get to the CEO for approval then they need to find somewhere else to work.
    I’ve worked with orgs like Proctor and Gamble and if you screamed loud and frequently enough things can happen quickly.

    Right now it’s inexcusable IMHO.

    @jenn I think anything has to be decent quality not cheap.

    • Drink bottles
    • Functional gadgets like travel adapters or USB power banks as I have a great one that also has wireless charging with suction cups to hold the phone on.
    • Smaller stuff that can fit in carry on that won’t get taken by airport security.
    • warm oversized comfortable hoodies with small printed logos not anything massive that can be warn at home.

    Those are the things
