Discord "servers" have nothing to do with servers, and calling them that is silly.

Ironically, Discord's own internal name for them ("Guilds") is actually pretty good, so sad they didn't use it in the UI.

@ellie first of all, that knowledge in Discord spaces/communities/guilds (if i only remember to, i refuse to call them "servers") is borderline impossible to find.

You need to know what community you're looking in, and then rely on really meh Discord search. And then you're likely to find a random discussion that is spread throughout 3 other discussions happening at the same time.

So it's a mess and definitely not something feasible.

So I've listened to @LateNightLinux Christmas special episode, where the hosts were asked "how to make the internet better?". I fully agree with the views presented there. Decentralization, federation, selfhosting are the ways to make the internet better, go back to the pre-capitalist times before monopolies. One thing that I feel was not mentioned is finding a way to tackle CGNAT and other obstacles in self hosting. 1/x

@stfn @LateNightLinux fuck that, even regular NAT with public IPv4 makes selfhosting a mess. Internal routing when you want to have a service available both from LAN and the internet is a mess of reverse proxies and inefficient routing.

We need NAT-less IPv6 to make the internet better.

A dishwasher tip specifically for those of you in North America:

Your dishwasher expects to be filled with hot water. If it takes more than 15 seconds for the water at your kitchen tap to get hot, your dishwasher may be washing with cold water for much of its cycle.

If your dishwasher seems kinda meh, try running the kitchen tap until it's proper hot and steamy before you start a wash cycle. It may make a huge difference.
